How can you tell whether a C body is equipped with Twilight Sentinel? How would the controls differ from a C without Twilight Sentinel?

Thanks,

Jeff in Baltimore

If it has this control on the dash and this sensor by the rad it has the sentinel lighting option. This is on my 69 New Yorker

That's on my 69 New Yorker parts car. Other Chryslers may be a bit different

Marlowe I do not have that sensor by my rad yet I have the sentinel switch on my dash of my 70.....wonder if thats why it does not work?? FSM here I come!

There is also this small knob on the top of the dash. I believe it is to set the sensitivity of when the lights automatically turn on

This information is out of the operators manual that was still in the car. It starts on page 18. Sorry about the small pictures

I guess the small knob on the dash is a timer of sorts for the head light shut off. See I had no idea what I was talking about before. LOL A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing

May be. It's starting to look like you may need some parts after all

That is the sensor for the automatic headlight beam changer. The automatic headlight beam changer was another option (which required the sentinel/twilight automatic light be ordered as well). But not all cars that had the sentinel/twilight automatic light also had the automatic headlight beam changer.

My first 73 Imperial had both. The dimmer sensor didn't look anything like that one. It was behind the grill flat black, the sensor itself was small at the back of tunnel, if you will, with adjustments for left-right and up-down. The auto-dimmer never did work properly, but the twilight and timer worked great.

It would be cool to see this option in operation but unfortunately it is in one of my parts cars. To me this option seems like it's ahead of it's time. What do you guys think ?

Has anyone installed this option on a car that was never born with it from factory? It looks like a cool option to have but a bit of a electrical nightmare to install.

Sorry about hijacking the post but I'm finding this sentinel lighting stuff quite interesting
