Barn Find! 2 1966 Newport’s and a New Yorker

Hey, welcome and congrats on the purchases. Starting right off with a fleet and that camper is quite a find too. Truck looks decent and a big block. Watch the seems on the camper, rubber may have cracked from sitting all that time, good thing all of them were under a roof, (except the parts cars of coarse).

This story starts about 20 years ago. We lived next door to a retired man and his wife who had three 1966 Chrysler’s. His wife drove the 2 door Newport and he drove the 4 door 440 New Yorker. He also had a red 4 door Newport he bought new in 65 and drove to Oregon with his family in the late 60’s. I even rode with him a couple times in the New Yorker. We moved away when I was a teenager but always kept in touch. He always knew I loved those cars as every time we would go visit him I’d want to go to the pole barn where they were stored and check them out.

This week he called me and told me he had a person make him an offer on the New Yorker. He told that person he had to call me first because he knew I wanted them. I drove out on Sunday with my family and checked them out. I made him an offer and bought all three including two extra parts cars. I couldn’t be happier! Can’t wait to get them home and start cleaning them up and getting them back on the road. The last time they were on the road was 2004.

The white 2 door Newport is a 383, auto, AC car, the white 4 door New Yorker is a 440 auto car and the red 4 door Newport is a 383 car.

I brought the New Yorker home today. Pressure washed it and vacuumed out the interior. Still need to wash the seats and dash. Lots of dust and some mold. Should clean up really nice. Time to find some new tires and start on the mechanical. Looks like not many options for the 225/75R15’s that are on it.

HOSE!! Sorry, couldnt resist

She cleaned up real nice like. Congrats!

The car shows the 14-inch wheel covers. Have they adapted the wheel cover to a 15-inch rim?
No, it has the factory 14's on it still. It's running a set of 225/75R14's. Ive found the most options in a 14 inch tire at 225/70R14. Any other 14 inch sizes I should check out?

OK, there was a typo then "225/75R15", that's why I was puzzled. Yours has the same tire size as on mine, 225/75R14 but they don't exist anymore (well, at least, I can't find them at all with narrow whitewalls).

There was an excellent input from CBODY67 about tire size here:
1966 New Yorker - deep inpection started

Your New Yorker has really caught my eye. Lately I've been researching slabsides and after comparing the front end styling with the other models, I think I prefer the 66 New Yorker more than any other. My father in laws 66 Newport comes in a close 2nd. By the way, he's looking for straight front and rear bumpers if you have, or know of any. Congrats again on your puchases.

So in researching tires I think I’m going to run a set of 215/75R14’s. A little narrower but same height. I think it’ll be okay for now. Had to buy some ignition parts as I had no spark when I turned her over. New plugs, wires, coil, cap and rotor. Hoping to install them tomorrow.
