Just renewed my tag. Photo attached of “appraised value” which I have never seen before. I would be lucky to get $8k for this Fury.

My first reaction was to say they’re just uninformed and only interested in generating revenue and assessing higher fees. Which may be only half of what’s going on. After thinking about it a little longer, I started to think this is a way to nudge people towards getting rid of cars like ours. Its a safe bet some of these a—hole politicians see our treasures as only polluters and clunkers and therefore politically incorrect. The tag indicates you can appeal. Good luck.

You should be able to put the same value to it at the DMV as you carry on your auto insurance. Also wonder why the DMV cares, all you are doing is registration and plates, correct? Or is that based on value where your at? In Wisconsin you can get collector or hobbiest plates and the value means nada.

Roughly 150.00 for one time collector plates and title transfer in Minnesota. They do ask what you paid for it and would charge tax only if you purchase regular daily driver plates.

Being that @Joseph James is located in Asheville, a rather "artsy" place:rolleyes:, you might be on to it. Our DMV is suppose to go by Kelly Blue Book values, which I still think is horseshit. I would be getting in touch with someone and getting my money back.

Another small DMV issue here...their computer only allows clerk to input "Chrysler Imperial" not "Imperial LeBaron" in database discription.

So it costs you $145 to register your car per year? Sheesh that's a lot. Glad mine are all my classics are permanent one time registration. I've got 6 registered antique @$75.00 no yearly renewal fee. Can't imagine what it would be for a $65k corvette.

I'd appeal, you've got some time. Tell them that the greasy car salesman at the local Chrysler dealer said it was worth $500 on a new Ram.
Property tax assessors are the same way. I'd drop dead if I could get what those asshats claim my house is worth.

In OK, you can get Antique or Street Rod tags good for 10 years. $85.00. Very limited use allowed.

YOM plates are $21.00 annually on top of the normal $25.00 renewal for theregullar tag...$46.00 annually. Vehicle can be relatively normal use, but not used commercially.

Yes, I will be appealing the valuation. I have stated value insurance at $10k but realistically I think 8k would be high for this car. It’s a daily driver, which is a lot of fun.

I have seen convertible sport fury cars in restored condition listed for 18k.

They couldn’t have used Kelly blue book. Values don’t go that high for a 68 Sport Fury like mine.

yes indeed it is an artsy place. I am one of the plebeians living in the county that keeps the artsy types living in comfort.

Print out some CL ads, ask them how they came up that number first, then plop down a pile of real numbers.

That should shut em up

In California, higher the value the higher your registration fees.
Alan

If a new car that is for sure and then it declines from there as the years go by as we all know. However I don't see that concerning all my five old cars. They are all $122-124 whether the Polara, Park Lane, Cougar or Mustang even though they have different values. Only my 65 F100 is higher since it technically has commercial plates costing $147.

I'm surprised by the slip saying appraised value meaning someone appraised the car. Like who and when was that done?
