My Chrysler Newport 1967

General Information

So, the 29th of April 2018 I finally fired up the rebuilt engine. Runs like a charm. The car came with a 400 from 76-78 which was leaky and tired. Managed to get a hold of a 383 block (as it should be in the original car) and I have now equipped it with:
- Cylinder heads from 440-source (stealth)
- KB pistons (KB 162)
- Summit K6400 cam
- Ignition module MSD 6A

Soon it is time to cruise again :)

Would love more details about the engine build, as I want to do something similar with my Newport. What did you settle on for a compression ratio? Is your goal only more HP? Does it still maintain a smooth low idle?

Looking for someone in Atlanta to rebuild a big block to personal specs. My 400 never performed as well as my 383 from 1965

I second the request for more details about the tires.

Hi there
I have aimed for a compression rate of appr 10:1. I found this article where they have basically the same setup as I have and they manage to get out just above 400hp out of the old 383.
Camshaft Comparison Testing

Also found this clip on youtube running the K6400 cam. Sounds really good. Smooth idling.

I've been following the story of this car for years. Glad to see that it's gone to another good home!
The only history I have is that the car most probably was sold by Roger Mauro, Lakewood, Denver and was imported to Sweden appr 3 years ago. Do you have more history of the car? Would really appreciate if you could tell me more :)

I can't remember the name of the person who restored the car in the US, as it's been quite some time since I was last in contact with him. He bought the car from Maddox Vintage in Commerce City Colorado. Maddox Vintage was a classic car dealer/junk yard that sold a bit of everything but focused more on Chrysler products. They recently closed down the automotive part of the business, but continue to be a propane dealer. The car was in pretty decent shape when purchased from Maddox, a typical western car with minimal or no rust, needing paint and interior work. It did not have a vinyl top at the time, which I believe was added during the restoration. It's funny that it ended up in Sweden, because the reason I requested info on the car when it was for sale in the US was for my friends in Sweden who import and sell Chryslers. They decided to pass on the car because they mostly sold convertibles, and didn't think that they could make a profit on the coupe. There's probably more information about the car somewhere on the DryDock website, but it might be hard to find it. Jeff

You must have to use Super unleaded with that compression ratio, right?

I read the article. Did you end up with the roller cam setup?

Hi. We have 98 RON here in Sweden and I guess that is what I will feed the engine with. With the K6400 I don't need a roller cam setup.

Today I finally got the thumbs out of my a.... and installed the new engine. A couple of more visits to the garage and hopefully I will be able to fire it up within 2-3 weeks. Pretty nervous to be honest :)

That engine compartment is a work of art. Is that an after-market intake manifold? Never seen one of those things bolted to the top. I guess it is to attach the lift to remove install the engine?

It is an Edelbrock 383 Performer intake manifold. The bracket is just for lifting. :)

So boys and girls. Now I have fired up the rebuilt engine and it runs great. Have just broken in the cam and soon it is time to take the old lady out for a spin.
You can find a small clip on Youtube here . So just relax, sit back and enjoy the song she is making :)
