1 of 159 Made: 1958 Packard Wagon

late to thread. you guys captured this one .. a few of you who mentioned/agreed with turboomni and others nailed it.

if you LOVE cars/trucks, the demise of a once great auto company is an ugly thing to witness... and if you think its bad from the outside and in retrospect, "what a joy" it is to live through it from the INSIDE. friggin' heartbreaking, mortally demoralizing events happen everyday. ughh..

as to the wagon, yes the product of a broke and broken Packard. While not to my styling tastes either, it IS a cool piece of American/world auto history. hope somebody saves it.

That Packard Wagon is EXTREMELY UNIQUE -- Packard Style Tail Light Lenses, for sure --- but what the heck were they doing in their
final year creating even 1 -- or 159 of them?!?!?!?!?!? That is indeed crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!

That cartoon with the DeSotos --- Jeff McNally, the cartoonist (now deceased) owned several DeSotos --- and ALWAYS accentuated the
tail lights -- because they WERE the GREATEST FINS in the world...... My 1957s all are the 3 - light "Tower of Power" FINS -- and, in his
comic strips, Jeff would always show them with 4 lights!!!!!!!!!!!! Just to exaggerate --- and he would always "cut up" his cars in the
comic strips...... I remember one where he was asked, "Are these cars worth a lot" -- and his response was, "Heck yeah, I just filled it
with gas!!!!!!!!" (Back in the day when gas was 30 cents a gallon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I remember that Wayne Carini sold one at auction.......

I love these cars....! They represent the era perfectly. Especially like the "cat walk" between the rear bumper and tailgate.
New signature... I'd have sworn that was the Wanderlodge owners favorite quote...
