1959 Plymouth Suburban 2 door wagon - project.
VERY VERY rare ! Plymouths answer to the Nomad.
VERY few exist.
325 V-8 runs 3 speed column shift. It has the tailgate window, it was down in the pics.
This is a very cool project. I have purchased some spares and new repair items.
2700.00 or truck trade. up or down. Legal - New Mexico Bill Of Sale.

I'm going to assume he knows a V8 from an I6, so it is probably a 318 or 350, not a 325.

either a 318 or 361 if its original and a V-8

and deluxe vs custom big diff in production: deluxe 15074, custom 1852

Looks like there is no interior. Could be hard to get an original replacement.

The 1959 Golden Commando 395 (Fancy name for a 361) was not available in Wagons. The choices were a Powerflow 6 (230 Flathead I6), V-800 & V-800 Super-Pak (318 & 318 HP), and the Golden Commando (350 HP). They are rated at 132, 225, 250, and 305 respectively.

The two 318s are rated somewhat higher for the passenger cars at 230 and 260.

I do not know why the 361 was not available in Wagons and I do not know why the 318s are rated different. This is just what the 59 brochure says.

Anyway, an engine shot would clear things up immensely.

Actually the Golden Commando 395, (designates the pound feet of torque), was avaliable in all 59 Plymouth cars except the Savoy business coupe. It was 361 CID.

The two 318's, (317.6 CID), were a two bbl rated at 230 HP and a 4bbl rated at 260 HP.

A 230 CID flathead six was the base engine.

I understood why the Super-Pak and standards are rated different. I did not see why the same 318s are rated differently when comparing the car specifications to the wagon specifications.

That looks like information from an original factory brochure but I question the accuracy of it. All the sources I references show the 1959 318 HP ratings at 230 & 260.

(Standard catalog of Chrysler, American classics series Plymouth 1946-1959 by Jim Benjaminson, Illustrated Plymouth & DeSoto buyers guide)

Ok then, but what's the final verdict on 350 vs 361? That brochure doesn't seem to show the 361 as an option. (Up until I saw this brochure I would have agreed that 58s would be 350s and 59s would be 361s.)

What I want to know is how you can slap a 4bbl carb on a 318 and gain 30hp?? How does THAT happen?

We're talking a 318 Poly. 4bbl & intake, but also a hotter cam, performance distributor (whatever that is...), and dual pipes

The 350 was the first gen "B" engine and was 58 only. It was called the "Golden Commando" in the Plymouth .... was equipped with 2-4bbl afb's and was avaliable in all models. (The base engine in the 58 Fury was a dual 4bbl 318).
The 58 Dodge D500 was a single 4bbl 350 "B" engine.

In 59 the engine morphed into the 361 CID.

True .... The 318 4bbl "Super Pack" was more then just adding a 4bbl carb.

Thanks to this post the car is now in the Dallas area in a close friend's garage. He picked it up last weekend. It is a 318 Poly, with 3-on-the-tree. It's gonna be the garage mate to his '59 Sport Fury 2dr hdtp.
