The public wasnt looking at those ( police car advertising) then, and if they were they were tougher then, they could handle it
 
I'll bet a million dollars they wouldn't use a pic like that today because "dead people would find it offensive".
 
I am tired of hearing that trunk, dead body joke.....its old and un funny

No mandatory seat-belts till 1966! They were an option to keep people from bouncing out on bumpy roads, not for accidents. They were first patented in 1955. Just my 2¢

You're right 1966 mandated by the U.S. government. Most U.S. manufacturer's had seat belts by 1962. Nash started to put them in cars in 1949. IIRC, shoulder strap seat belts by 1968.
 
Ford was early as well, offering them optionally in 1956. The Chevy campaign directed into performance had more success though.
