I read where someone used a tank from a satellite and it fit in the New Yorker. Has anyone tried this

You might go into one of the websites which has various B-body new fuel tanks for sale and look around. There are MANY B-body tank variations. Pictures and dimensions should be listed, too. Might start at www.rockauto.com .

They sell a direct replacement. You will be miles ahead with it.

You could put a tank from a studebaker pickup on there if you want to.
