Well, this car changes hands quite often:)

It's on its US tour... It started in Michigan, had Ohio plates on it for some pics, I saw it in New York State, it was on eBay in Florida and now it's in California?

Wow, this belongs in the moron thread. Punctuation. Learn it, live it, love it. Someone needs to slap this idiot upside the head with a chebbie. Bet he has a 350 small block posi with traction bars and Muncie tranny he’s “gonna git to one day” with money from the sale of this rare “Plymouth” 440 Hem-ie!

Hey guys! Just joined to inquire about this car. I'm currently in the market for a late 60s 'V8 'vert. This car is now in Socal. Went and looked at it. Numbers do match, (VIN, Motor/Trans). Only has PS and PB, no front disks, no PW, and no AC!!! Drives great, nice and straight, brake hard and does not pull to either side. I tracked the owner history, and like stated above... all over the US! Top was replaced, looks good, as does interior. Missing knob on right rear window handle. Has original build sheet. Also from research, can see radiator was replaced, exhaust changed to duals. Interior is clean, no real wear that I saw. Seats look like new, in original condition, has black carpet in good shape.

The issue is RUST repairs. Bumpers look good, no pitting. Mirrors pitted bad. Had car on a lift, repaint looks half way decent, but like on rear quarter panel where some seams meet, there was body filler spread over one of the panel gaps and painted over. Panels from front side look ok, but when looking underneath panels and repairs are a disaster. Floor pans are solid. It's just trying to find panels if I ever decided to buy it, and want to replace panels. Parts seem to be a PITA to locate.

Starts from cold easily, as does when warmed up, shifts super smooth.

Trans gasket leaking a little, as is rear oil seal from what I can see from up on the lift.

From what I can tell they said they bought car on ebay from Florida I believe. They told me they paid 16.5, and 1500 to ship. My research shows car last sold in March 2018 for 14.5. They offered at 13.5, I offered 11, they countered at 12k. Should I buy it and try to save it? Matching numbers is a plus for me, but kinda of a rare car and hard to get some parts it looks like. Its just this underside rust repairs look like a 5 year old did it. Ugly. I like the rarity of the car. But rust is a big concern. I've looked at some other makes of American cars that were either in AZ, or CA all their life, and never have rust issues like this. Like I stated looks good from topside, but underside is embarrassing. Thoughts? Should I run away? Thanks!

Welcome to the site, and thanks for a thorough report.

Yes, the body panels will be difficult to source, if they need replacement. All ’69-71 4 door panels are the same, though, if that helps.

12K doesn’t sound bad to me, but then again I’m looking at this from the other side of the pond. Here those convertibles start from 20K. - If I were you, I’d buy it, and drive it as it is. I’d look what comes up, and only then figure out what to do next. You can always get those 12K of it. After all, they don’t make them anymore.

What’s the cost to make the shoddy repairs right? That plus 12K = something north of 22K. Keep looking, I know of a certain red over white one that just went across the pond for the same money iirc and it was rustfree and didn’t need a paint job.

Having seen this car in person, I'm not surprised that there are rust repairs that show up when you look under it. That said, I don't believe that to fix said repairs would involve new panels. I think that a good body shop would just patch in sheet metal if needed. The car didn't look like it was that bad.

It was two years ago that I saw the car... If the repairs were "shoddy" as said, the rust would be popping back through by now.

So... Your choice. $12k and figuring on doing body work is too much. $12k and driving it as is, that's not unreasonable.... It's a good looking car as it sits. But that's based on my location and having had to deal with rusty cars in the northeast and YMMV.

Trying to read into your description. Sounds like the outside panels of the quarters are solid and the trunk extensions are the issue? If that is the case patching the trunk extensions or replacing them with with readily available after market set shouldn't be too expensive if you are willing to do the work yourself. My .02.

Here are the comments when it was for sale on eBay:

For Sale - reflections of Gary's finished 300? Nice convert on Ebay

I know it’s been said before, but when posting a link and screen shot from Craig’s list, try to put the photos in the thread.

My guess is the flippers thought they had a steal at $12.9k. Judging from the description and the run around they are giving the interested party, they obviously had no idea what they bought and now need to get the initial cost back. They actually paid fair market value IMHO.

I don’t think $12k is unreasonable for something that can actually be enjoyed now as opposed to after a lengthy restoration. I’d say get it and drive it, rust will always be a factor in any classsic no matter the level of restoration, and can be addressed sometime in the future as money and time allow.

no a/c might be a problem where you live. might hurt a local resale too.
