Lo and behold, this 1969 Polara 2dr is on eBay:

"California car! Still wearing what's left of 52 year old original paint the body is in good condition with minimal defects. There is a rust hole along the lower back window bottom. The trunk floor has some rust that will require minimal sanding and welding. Review the pics for detail. The interior is well worn and reflects 52 years of use. The headliner is out but I have the new material and all the attaching hardware is present and still attached to the car. All the gauges work although the speedometer reads slightly slow. Original radio no longer works and neither does the A/C. The compressor needs a rebuild and there is a defect in the blower motor switch. (the fan motor works but not through the switch and you need to pull the switch panel out to sort this out). The heater core and box are in good condition.
Originally 383 powered but has been 440 powered for 12 years. The engine is .030 over and has 440 six pack camshaft, timing chain and pistons. Dual snorkel factory Hi-Performance air cleaner, Performer RPM intake, 440 Source ported aluminum heads and factory high-performance exhaust manifolds with 2 1/2 pipes from TTI. Custom vintage aluminum valve covers that accept the stock push on breather. The suspension has Firm Feel torsion bars and front sway bar. Brakes are power front disc/rear drums. Rear end is 3:23 clutch type Suregrip differential. This car has been in constant daily use but we have many more cars so this one has to go. A very rare '69 2 door Polara with police type wheels and hubcaps for the imposing road stance. You can see a video of it running and driving on YouTube. Search "challengeher 1969 polara" and you should find it. If it fails to sell feel free to send me your best offer and i'll consider them.

The seller is showing the good and the bad about the rust:

By the way..both divisions knew they would not be able to finish their respective designs by May 1968, so the “Special” package was considered well before the car was finalized and or production started in August 1968.

I’ve got a complete NOS package in the box for a Plymouth..I’ll look on factory label for a code or anything else that may help..
I wonder if that is related to an article I once read (if I can remember where, I shall post the link) that, for 1969, the Dodge and Plymouth did not have front or rear loop bumpers and that the Chryslers did not have rear loop bumpers -- only the Imperial had both that initial fuselage year?
Some more for the puzzle:

DL23F9D144724 SBD = 10/8, YES chrome surround
DH43H9D160652 SBD = 10/25, NO chrome surround
DL45G9R18696?, SBD = 11/29, NO chrome surround
DL46F9D212992 SBD = 1/8, NO chrome surround
DL27G9D213140 SBD = 1/??, NO chrome surround
DK41L9D218179 SBD = 1/15, NO chrome surround
DM27H9D241455 SBD = 3/6, NO chrome surround

None of the above cars has the A47 code on its fender tag. FWIW, I did find one car in my sales records with the A48 (but not the A47) code that had NO chrome surround:

DL41G9D312661
I could update that list if there's any interest, i.e., if some questions remain unanswered. @69CoronetRT

The Polara edition of Collectible Automobile or whatever the Hell it was called. Fred's car was on the cover.

Mine has the chrome front, but does not have wood trim on the dash (at least not yet )
