1970 Fury III.......The next chapter

51-2 truck? ford or mercury?
'51 F1, it's actually my bodymans truck, doing a bunch of mechanical stuff on it for him.

Cool project! I always wanted to convert my Imperial to a 4-speed manual but parts availability (and prices) have put me off. :(

Do you still have your 4-speed stuff?
I kept some of it, but let a lot of it go.
Mighty fine, Nick. Looking forward to following your progress.
Progress will be slow, but that's life.
That's my boy talkin there.
I found a pint of Hemi Orange buried in my paint cabinet that a friend had mixed back in 87 for his Superbird's U code, I checked it and it'll be perfect for this.

Not much to report, just been picking at the 440 between other stuff, TRW 9.5:1 pistons, resized LY rods, with ARP studs, Clevite Bearings and Hastings piston rings, Made in the USA goodies

How do you like that ring compressor? I bought one of those in a kit and have yet to use it

It takes some getting used too and selecting the right size ring is a pain.

After you get it, it works well, it's nice that it's locking, this is a Matco set, but they don't make their own tools anyway.

Updates, because I've been slacking.....been assembling the 440...Comp cam, spec'd close to a street hemi, but with more overlap to build cylinder pressure, Melling double roller, Melling pickup and oil pump. NORS Mopar Performance flat tappet lifters, soaked and individually pumped up, Aerohead Indy 452 heads.

Moving forward....assembled the rockers and shafts, good used shafts I disassembled and cleaned/polished, new Melling rocker arms, I then primed the oiling system while rotating the crank shaft, and then assembled the intake and etc before priming it for paint.

A trip to National Moparts yielded me the correct '70 only valve covers, as well as all the plug holders and heat shields.

I got a lot of the other parts powder coated

Moving forward from there, I got the manifolds blasted and painted them, I know, not 100% OE, but it makes me happy.

I dug out the 30 year old paint my friend Duncan had mixed for his Super Birds U code 440, and had some mixed to match a spray card of it. Then I painted it, the photos don't do it justice, in person it's Hemi orange without a doubt...

I sourced the throttle bracket from the junkyard and sandblasted it before painting...

More to come this week as I keep moving forward...

I like the whiteboard. I need to get a bigger one. Oh, and good work too!

Nice work Nick. There's always that satisfying feeling when the engine comes together.

With the paint cured, it was time to start dressing the engine a bit....

For the colour, the first picture is the best I've been able to get it in a picture, for some reason it wants to photograph much more red then it is.

The colour is based on the Autopar Hemi orange, I did a spray card of it and what my friend gave me in the pint, so I kinda met in the middle and got a quart mixed in single stage, then I tweaked it a bit to meet my likings before spraying it.

I need to get a few brackets and a wire set and decide on a carb, then find where I put the air cleaner....

The distributor is a rebuilt I bought from Halifax Hops, the valve cover grommets are NOS, the drivers manifold and heat shield came from Dave Wheeler, the passenger manifold I bought at Carlisle in 2017, in all, I first began collecting parts to build this engine in 2014...

Looking fabulous!

A friend sent me some pictures a while ago that he took at Dave's shop years ago. The blue car is Dave's T code B5 GT he parted to restore the B7 V code, it also backed up my theory my car had a vinyl top added at some point and showed me what was once on my trunk lid....

I met up with one of our members @67valiant 100 on Saturday at Empire dragway in beautiful Leicester, NY and picked up a a stub he had for me thats much better then what's in my car, as some remember, that was basically the worst part of this car and the only rot underneath it.
