1972 Fury III 360 101498 miles

Terminology: when I buying parts for another car, vendors called this part the dash shell. (This is from when I restored the dash on my 1970 Fury convertible)

This part was called the dash pad, backing plate included

What everything looked like when I combined the 2 pieces along with the rest of the dash assembly

As you can see from the pic above and below, the 1970 Dash pad has actual corners at the instrument panel

My 1972 dash pad looks more curved as it surrounds the instrument cluster.

My interior is originally Y5=Medium Gold. Not sure if the brown dash pad is factory or a replacement from a junkyard. I do know that I think the color is ugly, but maybe Chrysler didn't like the idea of a gold dash pad? Could also have gone with black or off-white/cream. My current pad has distortion/shrinkage. Plastic under dash panel is from 1973 Fury. Supposed to be same as 1972.

Plan is to pull the whole dash and- like @MN72Fury said - have abcmoparts recover the pad/backing plate correctly, while I work thru the rest. Plan to do hidden headlight conversion first, before I do the dash. thanks @ImpJay for confirming that only 1972-3 Plymouth or Dodge will work.
@MN72Fury, if you have a link or pic of your dash redone, would like to see it. Thanks, Ben

Hidden Headlight Grill
I have a friend in Montana who is doing some epoxy work on this grill. I bought the grill and bumper for $200. Mike is going to remove grill, epoxy repair mounting tabs, and pack the grill for ship. In return, he gets to keep the bumper for his 1972 Fury. My bumper is going to Hanlon plating in Richmond, VA. No bumper guards on mine.

Dan @IMFURYS is helping me with a couple of the center grill pieces (beside the headlight cover pieces) that he has.
Parts acquisition is ongoing.
I intend to paint the grills black.
Does anyone know if the grill surrounds are originally Mopar Argent Silver? Could also be Bright Silver.
Thanks, Ben

Hey Ben,
Here is a pic of my Fury from the day I purchased her with the factory grilles and a couple of pics during/after the body work. I believe it is argent silver. I'm trying to remember which website has information on which paint colors were used for different Mopar parts for different years. I'll have to see if I have it bookmarked. Hopefully these pics will help in the meantime.
Dan

Thanks @IMFURYS Dan. Your car looks awesome!
If you have a moment, post a pic or email me me a pic of how the rod that goes thru the grill motor attaches at the headlight covers. Thanks! Ben

To confirm the interior color(s/shades), I recommend this from The 1970 Hamtramck Registry - 1972 Plymouth Color & Trim Book - Stripes & Interior :

I assume that the code for yours is E3Y5 or D4Y5.

I posted this in the electrical forum.
@Davea Lux and I were p.m. talking about an aftermarket relay to replace our 40+-year-old OEM hidden headlight grill relays. This relay for Dodge Charger hidden headlights is on eBay. I took a look at topher’s feedback. It includes excellent feedback for the grill relay and is 100% positive.

At $25 the price is right. I’m going to convert my 1972 Fury to hidden headlight grill. If I can’t get a working Mopar relay, I may order one of these. I’m guessing:

Red wire to ignition on input power at the stud.

Black wire to ground

White wire, with resistor?, to headlight on/off power

Blue and Yellow wires to grill motor.

If anybody else needs one, and orders one immediately, I’d like to hear what your experience is. I’m still gathering parts and my front bumper needs re-chrome. It may be a month or 2 before I can test a relay out. Hope this helps somebody. Ben

Bumper Rechrome
I spoke to the owner, Jeff Hanlon. He seemed knowledgeable. His family has been running the business since 1975. Looked at some chrome bumpers he had finished. Looked excellent. I asked about his one bad google review. He commented that the metal in the parts received was poor, so rechrome was not top quality. With my bumper, metal is strong, so we should be OK.

What is the approximate cost to have number rechromed? Thanks

Hey Ben, if you are interested, i have a 9 1/4 rear end here out of a 73 cbody that would bolt in for $100. Probably a lot cheaper than an 8 3/4 when you find one? Food for thought.

Does the price include any straightening for dings etc.
Hi Javier. Supposedly, it does include straightening. Mine didn't have any dents, but I think you pay the $450 regardless. If it's a smaller a-body bumper, they reduce the price $50. Ben

Hey Gary, thanks for the thought food. Was 9.25 introduced in c-bodies sometime in 1973? Reason I ask is: I have 1973 FSM Chrysler/Plymouth. It lists 7.25, 8.25, 8.75 in chapter 3, but no 9.25.

What is gear and condition of your 9.25? Is it open diff?
