So every once and a while, usually in the morning when the car has been sitting overnight, the 440 in my New Yorker is not interested in starting at all... It will crank and sometimes it'll even sputter but wont start. Then, magically, it eventually starts and runs great. I've replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the screen filter in the carb. I've also done the cap & rotor along with spark plugs. They all needed to be done but it hasn't fixed the problem. I've tested the coil and tested the whole thing for spark, then swapped the coil anyways, no change. Swapped the ECU, no change. I can see fuel in my filter and can see the accelerator pump squirt some fuel with each pump. It almost acts like its super far out of time. The part that baffles me is that when it is running, it runs great. Any ideas guys? I should mention the Lean burn stuff is all gone.

Fuel pump pushrod, check the length, it's worth a shot.

Should be an inch and a quarter iirc. Keyword it in this websites advanced search to find the discussion.
