William Leland III, the great-great nephew of Cadillac founder Henry Leland, ordered the 1979 Trans Am in 1978 after his father agreed to co-sign for the loan. When it arrived at the dealership, Leland wouldn't allow the staff to complete any regular prep jobs and demanded they did not install a front license plate bracket. Interestingly enough, Leland never actually registered the Trans Am, but borrowed dealership plates if he needed to move it.
Unfortunately, Leland passed away of cancer at the age of 42, so the 1979 Trans Am was placed into his father's care. He honored his son's wishes and simply kept the car in storage, only starting it and shifting through the gears periodically. Leland III drove the car 46 miles in his entire lifetime. The other 19 came when his father transported the car to his home.

And now, it seeks a new loving owner for a cool $159,900. It's a good bet that there isn't a more factory fresh Trans Am out there.

This time capsule 1979 Pontiac Trans Am has been driven just 65 miles

That kind of money will get you a 68 or a 69 Hemi something.....

Fire Chickens are the hottest cars on the market these days. Lots of nostalgia, and those punk kids that drove them in high school want them back at any cost. Hmmmm, sounds like some E-body guys I know.

My mother bought a new 79 Trans Am. One of my brothers totalled it.

My Mom bought a new 84 firebird , I tore the car up as I had no respect for it, and not much else at that age for that matter. Its part three in the Novel of my stupid youth

My Mom's first car was a Duster with a 340 and console shifter. Another brother totalled that car. She also had a Mustang and a 3rd brother totaled that car. I used to tease my Mom that she needed to get another hotrod so I could get my chance to wreck one of her cars.

Sad thing is - I could've bought a '79 T/A from a former commander I worked for about ten years ago. Silver with silver leather interior, he bought the car new, and it had maybe 18K miles on it...for the then-ridiculous price of $10,500. That car is still local, and sold a few months ago for $55K. Woulda coulda shoulda...
