So my wife has asked if I can add headrests to my Polara bench seat so I pulled the bench out of the 73 Newport and have started on this now that MoparFest is done.

Look at what I discovered when I pulled the seat cover off tonight.

( there's a problem with my PC or the server. all photos are bombing out on me.. Stay tuned Folks!

Got them! I cheated and copied n pasted HAHA!!! Take that silly server errors!!

Tom am I correct in assuming you are going to try to transplant the hardware out of the 73? Please keep us posted with pics. The orginal seat covers look great. Are you keeping them?

I took last night off since it was our 30th wedding anniversary

Back at it for a bit tonight
I cut the original bench seat frame with the headrests in half and have mached it up with my original framework

Have it all set for welding
First time i have done something like this but if Richard Rawlings can do it on the Fast n' Loud why shouldnt I be able to hack up my one of a kind bench seat????
Here i am checking if can do it without destroying the frame and it is looking pretty good so i went for it!

well for lack of progress photos. I have completedthe first side

I took the headrests to a local upholstery shop.
I have about 5 sq yards of material from the interior so they have lots to work with.

I did clean the welds up afterwards a spray painted the frame.

Turned out pretty good other than struggling with the packing material to get the original seat cover back into place :D
Once that one was on and secure the newer one slid right one like nobody's business!

Now I'm just waiting fro the headrest and will install it.

Sorry Fred I am installing the slip on's again. the old covers are too fragile to have exposed..in fact this one ripped about 6 inches on the one side removing it..

Impressive you got after it and did a great job doing it the right way. We must keep our wife happy in our c-bodies, otherwise they want to ride in the daily drivers instead. :)

this is too true brother... too true...

Sometimes I think we should have had a 2dr HT instead of a flop top due to the hair factor blowing in the wind...

I can't tell you how many times I've had to call my stylist for an emergency redo on my hair after taking he car for a drive!!! LOL!

I really lucked out having this brain storm about grafting the original bench parts into the non head rest bench as well.
Most time my ideas are nothing more than trying to light a wet fire cracker...:p

Yes the hair factor, just went out to eat last night, needed a couple minutes to get the hair acceptable for dinner. The hair is the biggest issue she has with the car, but she would not go out to dinner in my MGB with the top down, totally mess of her hair. By the way I had my MGB out a total of once this year, you know where my love lies now.
