Hello folks, I am considering upgrading my 67 Newport Custom to a 4-barrel setup. I am not trying to make some kind of hot rod out of the car. The existing Stromberg WWC 2bbl needs to go, so I am thinking of upgrading to 4 barrels. who sells a reasonably-priced manifold and 4bbl for the 383?

Alternately, I would keep the 2bbl manifold and just replace the carburetor, if there were a bolt-on replacement. The guy at Daytona Carburetor tells me the bolt pattern for the WWC doesn't match the other carbs that were used. Is that right?

Any advice will be appreciated.

The bolt pattern for the WWC3 is the same as the later-used Holley 2210-family carbs used into the 1970s on B-engine 2bbl intakes. Should be the same bolt pattern as the 1.56-1,69" throttle bore Rochester 2bbls, too. NOT to forget the Carter BBD 1.56" throttle bore 2bbls used in the late 1960s and such, which was replaced by the Holley 2210 in 1972 model year on the 400s.

For the tech dimensions of that 2bbl bolt pattern, you can find that in the Holley Sniper 2bbl EFI information. Yep, 2bbl TBI from Holley, which started a few years ago. There is a graphic with the 2bbl bolt pattern/base gasket dimensions.

If you do go with a 4 bbl swap. My favourite is a spread bore intake from a 400 4 bbl and a thermoquad. If not factory iron, you can find a good 383 performer Edelbrock intake with dual bolt patterns to fit square and spread bore carbs.

I switched my 72 Newport 400-2 to an Edelbrock performer and a Holley spread bore 4 bbl. Both picked up used very reasonable. That being said since then I have acquired an Edelbrock dp4b and a performer rpm (both used) for later should I ever get back to the project.

Depending how rowdy you are getting I have always wanted to run a holley 500 2bbl on something.Even I had to drill the intake to make it fit.

The larger base plate hole started in 1968. "Holley-sized" rather than the smaller, prior AFB-sized. AVS is the large size, too.

Luckily, the ONLY thing that will need to be changed is the air cleaner base, as the filter size did not change.

I put a Holley 500 2 barrel on my ford 360 about 25 years ago. It ran good, but needed jetted WAY down. They are jetted super rich and do not have ported vacuum for the dist. I put the stock motorcraft back on when I sold the truck. I got the carb out a while back and have been looking to stick it on something else and play with it some more. They certainly need less tuning than a 4 barrel.
Travis..

Howdy If you want to keep it "Factory" go on B-Body sites and look for Road Runner/SuperBee owners and ask if anyone has a 383/4bbl setup including air cleaner laying around. You would be surprised how many people will donate parts that have been laying around for decades. Case in point I met a Gentleman at a car show with a 67 Fury last night that I'm donating a set of Fury emblems that are better than the ones on his car.

I use a stock intake from a 70 charger 383 if I remember right and a 1406 Edelbrock on my 67 Fury 383. I have the Mopar performance air cleaner. Because the stock one sucks and it want fit a four barrel carb anyway.
