It was my birthday Teusday and my wife ordered me a shrinker/strecher, but it is on back order, so I told her to cancel it. Now, should I order another shrinker/stretcher or should I buy a needle scaler. I could really use both with all the rust I have been cutting out. So shrinker or needle scaler. Any experiance with either?

Happy belated birthday!!!!

The needle scaler is awesome and will save you hours of work removing rust, paint, undercoating even paint on some surfaces. No experience with the other.

I say needle scaler. I don't know how you feel about Harbor Freight, but I have one and it's fantastic and cheap. http://www.harborfreight.com/compact-air-needle-scaler-96997.html The replacement needles are only $3.99

Happy birthday!

Both would be great to have! But gotta get the rust off before any metal work starts.... The harbor freight one mentioned above was only $30. Mines been doing pretty good! Picked up 2 sets of spare needles with it.

Happy birthday from the Motor City!

I have to get one of the needle scalers but I'll be damned if I'm going with HF junk. Aren't there any air tools that you could buy that are made in the USA?

Happy birthday! I vote MINIMILL! ok ok Scaler. But if you are going to do a lot of body work making patches down the road, the shrinker stretcher will be a nice addition.

Eastwood uses the same supplier for the shrinker and stretcher.
208 bucks w/o the stand.

Eastwood, No made in the USA anymore sir. All Chiner steel nowadays.

Covells, worth every penny at twice the price.

Baleigh's made in the US. Stand included.

I had one of those years ago I got from work. Didn't knew what it was, as we never had a use for it. Gave it to my friends dad who does all my welding for me. I'm sure he knew what it was, he just said thanks!

1st mistake ....... You have a wife that bought you a shrinker/strecher for your birthday, and you tell her to cancel it ......? She likely thought you would be very pleased with that, (for whatever reason), and you say "no thanks". What you should have said was ..... Thank you dear .... that is SOOoooo thoughtful ..... and then gone out and bought your own needle scaler.
Good luck getting shop equipment in the future.....
:poke:

My wife told me last night to order what I wanted for my present. So this is me sticking my tongue out. She's a keeper. Oh, I did buy a needle scaler.

My wife would NEVER tell me order what i wanted. Not sure if she's afraid of the new car I'd buy, or the hookers and blow that would show up instead.
