Question for the group
i received Ibm card from chrysler they have build date nov 2 1966 which is on build sheet and fender tag
but they listed ship date October 31 1966 how can you ship 3 days before you build it.

One of the 2 was an early estimate.

the SPD is simply a scheduled date. Many cars were built earlier than the scheduled date. Some were built well after the date.

Believe me that problem still exists today! Firm scheduled build dates or ship dates mean nothing. I often get scheduled ship date confirmations that are out by days and weeks and occasionaly months from actual shipping. I just had a Wrangler show up last week that was built in June 2015 ship date of June 24 got on the wrong train and according to the travel documents inside went to Mongolia China! FCA lost the thing for 8 months! Production constraints - just in time part allocation - rail car availability can all delay builds even though ship dates say otherwise. At best they are an estimate. Btw today most vehicles go from nothing to built on the line in 8 hours. Dunno how fast they were then anyone else?

That's my understanding too.

The only "real" way to tell when your car was "built" was from the ship date on the invoice, or IBM card.

The SPD is only a scheduled production estimate. = maybe built that day/week
