Haven't seen paver brick roads in some time. Just after the town square photo was taken I broke a self-adjuster paw in the right F wheel. THAT"S RIGHT no brakes. Limped into Collinsville Il. I must give credit to @Stanj, @furious70, @sixpkrt and @SGVert. evryone came down in the early Sunday AM and lent a hand or tools or helped in any way they could to help me get back on the road. Good fortune smiled down on me as I was able to salvage my self adj w/ a file provided by @SGVert. to restore the threads. Photo courtesy of @furious70

Sunday started w/ a photo op across from the St. Louis arch. With much regret I decided to leave the CATL and head back to Brownsburg. With interstate travel I use little to no brakes an a straight drive home w/o stopping seemed to be the best way to get home safely. My hats off to Jeremy for all you efforts in putting this together. A true class act. Thanks for helping me out that's going far and beyond in my book. For those who missed out, YES you did.

Hopefully it won't be too disorienting to folks to read stuff from our perspectives jumping around the timeline, if it is, too bad.
Tim, Mark, and I started at the 'start' but I think Stan drove more miles that day. He was planning to meet us around Springfield but had to come all the way to Atlanta before he met us!

While at the Gemini Giant we met a cool dude across the street with a custom bagger on his way to a reunion and then the guy on the Triumph Triple in David's photo was trading it in. He had several old mopes back in the day per the stories he was telling us.

This is where we pulled in to look at the Braidwood zoo and Tim's 350 GM diesel...David used Mark's carb cleaner to do the ole vacuum leak test and the old Imp told us immediately she had a bad baseplate leak. It was amazing how much better it ran with new gasket(s)...unfortunately it didn't last...
it was also at this point it was clear my oil psi troubles hadn't been fixed with the new spring in the pump.

The guys running the service station in Dwight were cool. It was the only station we stopped at that was open like that. They told us all the pins on the maps are people visiting just in 2023!

Another CATL event is in the books. Too bad @ayilar was called for work, and had to miss the annual driving tour, however Jeremy @furious70 did a great job navigating us through the route, and the selections on the choice of places to stop and back roads to drive on, both to and from St Louis.
As already posted, the filling station in Dwight had the world wide maps with all the stick pins from visitors that had stopped by their location. The caretake there mentioned they've had over 10K stop through since May 28th.

After Dwight, we cruised down the road and stopped in front of this church for a photo op. A local came out from a house across the street and spoke with us for a while, and mentioned he was selling the property next to him for $20K with this little figurine above the back porch.

Moving down the road to Atlanta where we met up with Stan @Stanj we took our first ride on part of the old road no longer traveled.

Then made it to Atlanta. Me some travelers from British Columbia who were driving the Rt 66 mother road all the way to Cali. They'd mentioned their trip will be done in about a month. I guess if you're retired, you can do that.

History plaque in Atlanta spoke of the Wide Awakes party that had a duty of protecting the polls during the elections during Abe Lincoln's campaign, to protect against ballot tampering. I didn't know about this group until we were there, but I paused for a moment after reading the marker and thought how much this country needs a group like this so badly today.

Time to check the fluids at this stop. I think all of us took time to do so while we were at this stop.

Soon afterwards, we drove down anothe part of the old Route 66....

The brick road was a nice stop for another photo op.

Crusin' through more towns...

I'll post more pics tomorrow of some of the places we stopped at.
The trip took me back a bit, by just the scenery and small town atmosphere, and the fact that we drive by places like these everyday when we travel today on the super highways.

More from 'Memory Lane' at Lexington. Apparently this isn't always open to vehicle traffic but we seized the day!
Driving original sections was about the #1 priority for me...after a couple stints my companions were not of the same opinion!

Those last two pictures remind of the first CATL, when we got on the back roads on our way to meet you at Slades Corner, nice little backwoods two lane roads. It was some of my favorite driving that year.

Yes Tim caught me adding oil here at this stop and I'm not exactly sure what I caught him doing there...

I neglected to get a photo of us at dinner with our 32oz beer steins, but here's one of the rest of them eating from the breakfast buffet.

I liked the Cargill plant on the river as well. There are a number of abandoned elevators on the route of course, I didn't get photos
