My manual has no pages on the doors, and I did not find tapping plate discussion on the forum. On other work, the tapping plates were loose and would slide in slots inside the pillar. Anyone know how these tapping plates work here....assume they will not fall loose if I remove the screws. thanks

I would not remove the screws. You should be able to do what you need by loosening just a little bit.
Are you having door closure problems, alignment or both? I have loosened mine just enough then close
the door and tighten them down. Obviously you have to get the gaps and body lines to line up as best allowed given the condition of the body (previous accident for instance). This of course, if hinge adjustment is NOT needed.
