Hello guys, I have been searching post for a couple days now and haven't found the answer to a few questions. So here goes.
Will a 69 new yorker front brake rotor fit on the 73 up brake swap spindle?
Leaving the caliper out of the equation so to speak.
The reason I ask is kind of confusing but I will try to explain as clear as I can.
I saw a YouTube video (1956 Desoto firedome sportsman YouTube) if you care to look it up It is a very nice yellow car worth checking out.
Half way through this video he has a couple pictures of a bracket he made to install 69 new yorker disc brake calipers on his 56 Desoto. He says the rotor is a bolt on as the spindles are the same between the two models.
It looked like a very clean well done job that impressed me more than what I have found available through a couple of the normal brake swap venders for my 56 desoto.
So since I am forced to do this on a small budjet I think I will give it a go at making my own brackets.
I have a pair of rotors and calipers from a mid 80s dodge truck that I think will fit the 73 up swap spindles. I tried them on a 74 duster and they went right on. But am unsure if they fit the 69 New yorker spindle which is supposedly the same as my Desoto?
These are the same dia. & thickness as the 69 New yorker rotor but am unsure of the bearing interchange between the two.
I hope this makes sense.
In my research I have seen the terms bud, kelsey hays, unicast, two piece hub & rotors, fixed, floating and sliding calipers honestly I am still somewhat confused as to what is or goes to what.
I even seen on the home page of this site that perhaps the C-body began in 57? So now I don't even know if my 56 is a C-body like I had thought.
I believe I have created more questions than answers for myself. Hope someone here who knows these cars much better than i can clear some of this up for this new guy.
