The tires on my 63 New Yorker were probably 30 years old or so and in pretty bad shape. I definitely prefer the thinner whitewalls on this car like it had, it looks classier IMHO. I couldn't find them in my size (8.50-14) 225/75/14 and I didn't like the wide whitewall look on this car maybe if it was older it would look good. I didn't want to spend $209. per tire either from Coker, so I went with a Hankook Optimo H275 blackwall 225/70/14, they're a little lower in height but not much. The ride definitely improved over the bias tires and having more tread on them helps. I bought them from Discount Tire Direct and had them installed at a Firestone dealer near me. I brought the rims and tires in because they were a little leery on working on a car it's age, which is probably a good idea with the left hand threads on the drivers side. I actually stripped a nut, so better me than them. I really don't like the look though to be honest, it looks more like an old cop car now. I guess I'll get used to it. I also changed the shocks which wasn't to bad of a job. I'm sure it needs an alignment too which I'll have done after I replace the brake power booster and master cylinder.
