I viewed it twice and I am still taken aback at how I really haven't accomplished didley in my life.
Please, wait until you can give it it's full 25 minutes to really appreciate this.

All I can say is just WOW !!!!!

And I thought I knew a bit about house building and woodworking! The craftsmanship is astounding, something most people in North America will never see. Better not show this to Paul or Deriks car will never get finished. :p

liked the masonry part the best of course...actually watched the whole thing..the build was well thought out...woulda done fireplace differently...you want the mass to hold the heat through the night...
was also nice to see someone slake some lime...they would use that to add to cement to make it smoother/richer...kinda like cake iceing sorta deal...nice stuff to finish walls for the sante fe look...see he used it throughout the interior.
anyway this just reminded me holidays are almost over and its time to go forth and build.....bills to pay and one more car to go yet....

The opening credits say "dedicated to family and Richard Proenneke" If you have never heard of "Alone in the Wilderness" do yourself a favor and look it up - that man was the epitome of self reliance !!! I first viewed the documentary @ 8 years ago - and it captivated me! looks like he was the inspiration for this wooden house project
here is a clip of his documentary I found on you tube

If you liked the "aloNE in the wilderness" movie you should read the book. He was pretty unhappy with the editorial license and the book gave an even more impressive account.

I would like to have something built in the Alaskan wilderness....with a generator. LOL!

Unbelievable effort, incredible results, totally humbled and inspired. Thanks for posting Stan!

If you would have put it on 2x speed you would have had 12:065 left over to try to rectify your feelings of insignificance.... 24:13, aint nobody got time for dat.

After seeing John Holmes, I Realized how insignificant I was...or at least a part of me did.

That kinda project is impressive to see, a great human achievement, but after watching some of those trendy off-grid, make-your-own-lumber shows I've come to the following 2 conclusions:
1. Those projects get completed in an acceptable timeframe when you have no job, or children to raise, or other related obligations (and with the help of a producer with a video editing team).
2. We view the stars of these shows as rugged individuals, but I'd bet most of those people probably couldn't hack it in the rat-race business world of outsourcing, frequent business re-orgs, office politics, while trying to figure out which healthcare plan you should choose. I think Mother Nature and grizzly bears might be more forgiving.

Not meant to start a catfight, just an observation.
