Jury Duty....

I'll probably end up on some dragged out murder case. No problem....as long as I'm not sequestered!

I am permanently exempt from Jury Duty. All it took was a letter to the Clerk of Court explaining that the "compensation" they offer as a per diem was inadequate in order to maintain the quality of life I have established for my family, and until they start paying $40/hr for jurors, not to bother me again.

It worked.

That won't fly in Hazzard (Harford) County! LOL!

They just don't care if you get paid or not. And they try their hardest to get to donate your jury stipend to some charity. Which I always do. I think its $12 a day.

Well, my "explanation" was a bit more in-depth. I went into explaining how if they REALLY want to slap me with the maximum punishment for ignoring a summons (only $50 fine here in NC) that they were welcome to try, because I wouldn't pay that either... If that further provoked them to issue a bench warrant for failure to pay that, once again- feel free, because at that point they'd just get a visit from my attorney. I also told them what I make daily, and explained that an attempt to force me to "accept" their per diem would be an attempt to take food out of the mouths of my kids...

In Maryland, you cant even get released from jury duty with a valid reason over the phone. You have to submit your documentation in writing.

I tried calling them yesterday to get handicap parking instructions and of course no one will answer the damn phone. You can't leave a message with a call back number....you have to keep calling until someone answers the damn phone. Worse than the stinking MVA!!!!

You know how it is with government agencies, if it is in their favor, they want it yesterday, if it is in your favor, go see the complaint manager, (Hellen Wait).

That's one reason I'm glad my employer is higher on the .GOV foodchain than the County yokels that want me to sit through some trial where a guy with a dime-bag of weed gets a 5 year sentence, and a pedophile gets probation.
