Lets Play A Game: Last Of The Convertibles

Beautiful pictures, @Love Shack -- thanks for posting!

The lighting in your pics makes CE27L0C185303 's FY6 Citron Gold metallic paint look almost like a 1971 color, GJ4 April Green. The latter is one of my favorites -- the best example I have ever seen is a Polara Brougham coupe previously owned by @saforwardlook.

From pics I have seen, FY6 "travels" quite a bit -- here are some examples: a 300 and a Newport under cloudy skies in Germany, another 300 in bright sun, and a sister to your car -- a Newport 'vert in the Netherlands owned by a friend of @69monaco. It'd be great to hear more about the latter, too!

Numerous times when the car has been out, people ask, “What color is that?”
I tell them it’s called Citron Gold, and they usually respond, “No, it’s green.”
Kind of depends how the light hits it.

I will try to get a picture of my tag here. I still have the 70 Polara conv. we bought new in August of 1970. We were told when we bought it that it was the last 70 polara conv. ever built. The build date was June 25 1970. I have never seen one built later

Welcome Bill, Im not sure someone would know then or now if it was the very last one built. I do know from the original owners of a twin to your car that they were told in January 1970 that 1970 was to be the last year for the full size Dodge convertible. The word was out back then ....

@Bill King -- I am aware of two other Polara 'verts built on 6-25-1970:

(i) one is DL27L0D293310, a Monaco-ized FF4 green 'vert that moved to Denmark via Colorado a few years back (thanks to @polara71);

(ii) the other is DL27G0D293351 -- an ER6 red ragtop with Monaco grille now residing in Norway (thanks to @71Polara383).

Yours -- DL27L0D293397 -- has the highest last 6 digits (VIN) of the three. Thank you again for posting about it, as it is indeed the last known Polara 'vert, and the only one built that day that is still in the States (and owned by the family that bought it, to boot)!

Edit: attached are the photos of DL27G0D293351 (thanks to @71Polara383!). Note that the order number is also lower than Bill's FK5.

Because of the way cars are built, it is not possible to determine build sequence by VIN. The higher VIN could have been built after a lower VIN.

The SCHEDULED production date is just that....a SCHEDULED date, not necessarily an actual date. Cars with the same SPD could have been built before or after the SPD.

Cars with the same SPD may have been built a week apart.

Once you get to the door sticker era (see last C body thread) you can gain some clarity as to order built but you cannot determine an order by only the VIN.

There could be several or none after Bill’s. We don’t know.

True, but it's the best we can do.

edit....the order number has even less to do with order of production.

293310 was in Arizona before Colorado

293351 was in Washington State before it went over seas. Both were for sale over 20 years ago ...

So how would you do it?

Th MDH sticker is a better method.

As much as people want to, you can’t use VINs, SPDs or order numbers to determine “first, last” or anything that has to do with sequence as none of them are related to actual production. Cars with higher VINs may have been produced before cars with lower VINs.

Please educate me, how could that be done on a 1970 sticker ?

As we learned from the other "Last Built" thread, the true way to find out what the actual last built, appears to be from the broadcast sheet.
