I have never owned a manual brake vehicle and I am wondering what the brake pedal is supposed to feel like. The Fury I just got had all new or newer looking parts on it including 3 out of 4 hoses. The brakes worked fine on my drive to the storage building but the pedal was rock hard and quite high with little travel. I want to stress that the brakes functioned perfectly except for pedal "feel". I realize that a power brake system will feel very different from a manual system...just want to know if this is a normal situation or should I look to correct it in the spring. Thanks!

The Fury should have 3 brake hoses, one to each front wheel and one from the frame to the rear axle assembly. Where did you find the 4th one? A hard pedal with manual brakes is normal. You should have about 5/8" free play at the top of the pedal before the brakes start to engage, this assumes the brakes are all properly adjusted and the system is properly bled. If it has less than that, you may need to reset the travel rod adjustment. The FSM gives instructions on how to set the travel rod. Down load the FSM for free at www.mymopar.com you will find the manual in the Tools/Reference section from their home page. Good luck.

Is the car coded for manual brakes? Double check that. If someone for shade tree on the car they might have converted to manual without getting the correct pedal, they are different. The ratio is different and it'll be very hard to push with a power pedal and no booster

A friend of mine has a 69 Dart with manual brakes, the brake pedal is higher than a power brake car, takes some getting used to.

I have that copy of the FSM...thanks. The car is totally original and the build sheet shows manual brakes. It has 3 hoses...my bad.The driver front and the rear one has been replaced along with all the wheel cylinders. I will assume that everything is as it should be. Thanks

seized up wheel cylinder(s) may be the culprit as well if you haven't got this sorted out yet...

The wrong fluid if topped up with anything other than brake fluid will cause a hard pedal if it can be pressed at all.

I have manual brakes in my Fury. My pedal is pretty firm. I have that 5/8” free play someone else mentioned. I’ll add that I have new wheel cylinders , shoes and the hoses on front brakes have been changed.

pedal is so different that I end up slamming the brakes in my wife’s new VW because I get so used to the manual brakes.
