A smiling attendant.

Imagine going into the local gas station/convivence store and seeing someone working there smiling...

Former Intercontinental Motors Volkswagen dealership, mid-century modern (showroom), basic brick service area (still moderne design themes) behind showroom , built 1963. 3303 Broadway, San Antonio TX.

Showroom was an architectural masterpiece in its day. This was the dealership that introduced the VW Bug to San Antonio back in the day.

Whaddayah think -- still there?

Yup, been many things, including neglected, in 60 years, now a used car dealership and something to do with buses.

Glad it's still there. I've been to San Antonio a lot but never seen this building. Will stop by the next time I'm there. Love old mid-century architecture.

Located at Irving Park Rd. & Western Ave. in Chiraq. It closed a few years ago but still has the sign.

Cool building! Sadly, it seems gone -- replaced by a Burger King in a bland new building.

From the Daily Breeze obit in 2009:

"When Doyle William 'Bill' Bader purchased the Chevrolet dealership at Sierra Avenue and Foothill Boulevard in Fontana in 1958, it was somewhat unsightly and wrapped around a gas station. But to Bader, who named the dealership Bill Bader Chevrolet, the Fontana building was just as wonderful as the Taj Majal. (...) After serving three years in the Coast Guard, he started his automotive sales career in Long Beach. He then purchased the Chevrolet dealership at Sierra Avenue and Foothill Boulevard in Fontana. At the time, Bader, his wife and three children settled in Rialto. (...) Bader relocated the family-owned business to 21st and I streets in 1975. 'His father always drove Chevrolets, so it was ingrained somewhere,' said his wife. 'And he just loved the car business and was was very good at it.' "
