For the 79 drag racing season. Chrysler contracted Ford Ace Bob Glidden to campaign a 340/W2 Plymouth Arrow in NHRA & other Pro Stock events. He won all but 1 NHRA races that year & won the season title. Plymouths last. Due to Chryslers gov. Loan guarantee the contract was nulled after 1 season & he went back to Ford. This is that Plymouth. Bob sold it to Super Gas racer Paul Gentilozi who wanted to move up to Pro. This is that car

Bob Gliden

Bob also attempted a switch to a Chevy in 1976. Disgusted with the weight breaks NHRA put on his 351 Cleveland powered Pinto & also the Hemi cars. He built this Monza with a small block. Took it to the U.S. nationals & failed to qualify. Sold the car to John Lingenfelter after that one attempt.

Glidden Arrow

Here is a pic of the Arrow when Glidden owned it (Pro 1). Racing the Jim Kinnett Hemi powered Volare. As a side note the Kinnett Volare briefly held the NHRA Pro Stock ET record

Too Bad The Arrow was a JAP POS. Just Sayin.

Anyone remember the Fire Arrow? 2.6L with a 5 speed trans. " For 1979, the styling was freshened and a sporty variant called the Fire Arrow was offered, which had special decals, sporty interior as well as a Mitsubishi Astron engine and four-wheel disc brakes. The Fire Arrow had one of the best horsepower/weight ratios among U.S. production cars at the time because of its light weight."

I remember watching Glidden crash in 1986 when the chute deployed incorrectly and threw him into the guard rail hard. The car disintegrated but Glidden was unhurt. They drag him out of the car and the first thing he does is throw his fire jacket over what was left of the intake manifold so nobody could see the shape of the ports.

Yes that was Atlanta. I was in the stands a few years ago when Shane Grey's car went airborn & crashed at Z-max in Charlotte. His dad a Funny car driver Johnny Grey hurried down to the sceen checked on Shane & then covered the intake with his jacket. It created a lot of conversation over the following weeks & driver Larry Morgan put lite on it saying he only uses his intake manifold to hold his carburetors up
