Production data

I have a stack of production/option books right in front of me and could help if I just knew the specifics.

I’ll bite! Let us start with:

1971 Monaco, 2-dr, white bucket interior.

1970 Polara convertible, turquoise, Canadian car.

Thx!

Ward’s Automotive Yearbook 1974 ... 1973 Fury production:

1) 280,330 (136,405 Newark + 143,925 Belvidere, "US car production")
2) 255,495 (broken down by series and engine type, "US car production")
3) 250,055 (broken down in percentages by factory-installed equipment, "US 73 model cars")

Wait a minute! 255,495 is also the total for a break-down by $100 price groups. A note to that table says it is based on North American car production aimed at the US market. So 2) would be the total excluding Canada and Export, not 3). In a post two years ago, @Bill Watson also said that 255,495 relates to the American market only.

In VIN speech:

280,330
- 255,495 = "U"
----------
24,835 = "C" + "I" = (IF CKD kits for export are not counted separately)

Now, does 24,835 (give or take a couple of hundred for export) make sense as a figure for the Canadian market?

Crunching some numbers reveals that Ward's and Collective Automobile (CA) are on the same page, somehow.

Ward's US market totals for the 1973 Fury series:
12,896 Fury I
18,604 Fury II
128,991 Fury III
30,811 Fury Gran Sedan/Coupe
47,924 Station Wagons
16,269 Police/Taxi
---------
255,495 US market total production

The Police/Taxi total is not listed by Ward's, but was obtained by subtracting the series totals from the US market total production.

CA grand totals for the 1973 Fury series:
17,365 Fury I
21,646 Fury II
137,920 Fury III
32,979 Fury Gran Sedan/Coupe
51,277 Station Wagons
16,267 Police/Taxi

Apart from the Police/Taxi totals, CA's series totals are consistently higher than the Ward's series totals. That surplus must relate to the non-US market then. The differences are:
4,469 Fury I
3,042 Fury II
8,929 Fury III
2,168 Fury Gran Sedan/Coupe
3,353 Station Wagons
--------
21,961

To get the total of non-US market production complete, add the following:
3,176 (Fury II 2-door hardtop for Canadian market, listed in CA)
--------
25,137

Subtracting 25,137 non-US market production from CA's grand total production of 280,630 should give you again the US market total production, this time resulting in 255,493, two less than the US market total given by Ward's. The balance between Ward's and CA consists of two Police/Taxi units.

Still, there is a difference between the Ward's and CA data, and that difference is located in the non-US market production numbers:

25,137 CA
24,835 Ward's
-------
302

If the total 1973 Fury production numbers for Newark (136,405) and Belvidere (143,925) are hewn in stone, those 302 cars must have been produced by some other plant.

It has been rumoured on this site that Ward's wasn't particularly good at keeping track of export production, so those 302 units just might fall into that category.

"some other plant" + "export production" makes one think of the CKD kits prepared by the Wyoming Ave plant, but there is no evidence that they engaged in C-body production.
