Radar Detectors

I love it when some speed jockey shoots by believing he is protected by his fancy detector. I just follow a mile or so behind and watch for his tail lights that will flash just before he gets his ticket.

I like cruise. All my cars have big V8's and without cruise I'd be in trouble. My last speeding ticket was in 1985, 34 years ago. (touch wood).

Slow down, listen to the road and the V8 rumble! Sweet music!

I agree, I've got a fancy *** kicking radio in my Esprit... I rarely have it on.
I'm too much in love with hearing the exhaust note.
My new Caterham doesn't even have a spot for a radio. Nor would I want one.

Speeding doesn't kill, carelessness does. Nothing reckless or careless about speeding .

Speeding IS Reckless and Careless with no regard for human life. When you respond to a crash where some guy thought like you and you have to go to his family and tell them he won’t be coming home along with two of his friends and you need a DNA sample because there isn’t enough left of him to identify visually, then you will finally understand that what you speak is foolish. I am surprised that you of all people would say such a thing. There are places you can go to risk your own life, leave the innocent out of it.

The whole point of the various radar detectors may be useless in a few years anyway. The newer cars with the built in satellite links with GPS can be tracked over a fixed distance from space. The technology for this already exists and has probably been used by the CIA and NSA to track known persons of interest. I think it is only a matter of time until this tech is used for traffic enforcement as well. Probably will be able to go to traffic court and see a video of yourself going 80+ that was shot from space. Probably be able to tell if you stopped at the local tavern or cat house along the way too. Isn't modern tech neat!

We are talking about 80 mph on 2 lane back roads. By the way Bob, the Troopers aren't admiring your car, they are visualizing their state insignia and blue lights on it.
A road is a road. The only reason a interstate is faster than a old 2 lane is because you can pass the ******* that barely makes it to the limit at the bottom of a hill. How about all the paperwork because a deer jumped out in front of the person with the 10 car line behind them and is too ignorant to pull over and get their hazard butt off the road for 15 seconds. Most enjoy that status as rolling roadblock, and how they are fixing the world that runs too fast, please.
Worst thing that ever happened to a Charger was becoming a cop car and the 4 doors.
I will agree that speeding can be reckless or careless, but those dummies should probably not have had a licence in the first place.

Guess he needed more practice.

ts all about generating additional revenue, more tickets=more revenue. And to the government control freak mind, you will of course be safer.

Or at least more scared.

You still need to stand on the brake when you see the cop. Keeps the reading wrong enough to lawyer it away.

Some governments are more than happy to scare you into compliance. The ChiComs with their social responsibility scoring system are doing exactly that. If the facial recognition tech catches folks pissing in an alley, going to unapproved places etc, your score drops and you lose your passport, employment, bank account and they may wind up in a re-education center. Kind of like the "Island" in Orwell's 1984. Everyone who did not tow the line, and pretty much anyone capable of independent thought wound up there.

That's an arrogant and elitist attitude.

I used doing the speed limit on the highway coming home one morning, a semi decided to cut me off from the middle lane so he can make his interchange, he was inches away from spinning me out... Then i realize my life isn't worth saving a few mpg a tank and said fux this and to keep up with the flow of traffic. The best way to blend in is to go with the flow

Between my 40+ years of driving a 18 wheeler (still at it too) and my years on the Fire Department ( we have 11 miles of I-10 in our district) I think it's safe to say I have seen and/or worked more accidents than most. Speeding in itself doesn't kill. Pushing past your abilities or the abilities of those around you is what will get you killed, speeding or not. Traffic laws are in place to keep everyone on public roads, regardless of ability, in even standing. You want to go outside the law, take it to the track.

Just don't come back here bitchin about your detector not workin cause you got a ticket!
Some people just can't handle the truth or constructive criticism!!

If you look down and your doing 80, then your putting everyone around you at risk. Stubs can be a little rough around the edges, but you asked for thoughts and he gave you his. You then cussed him and called him an idiot. i have to go with Stubs on this one. When i see a person doing 80, he is the idiot in my opinion. Go ahead, rant on me.

Let's start with learn how to read!

In my post I clearly said I was going 37 in a 45 on a 2 lane road when the state troopers were eyeing me. I didn't indicate what interstate I was on going 80 but to make it clear it was I-70 in Western Maryland where the speed limit is 70! I'm sure neither of you angel's have never ever been 10 over the limit!

I have clearly said in other threads that I was waiting on favorable weather (no rain) to go to my local track to make a few 1/4 mile passes on Test & Tune night.

It is so easy thinking I'm going 55-60 mph and I'll look down and I'm going 80 plus mph. There are alot of 2 lane roads here in Maryland where there are cops with radar hiding in cubby holes, cemetery's (yes cemetery's), and other places and they will ticket you for 8 mpg over the limit.

This is what I read. Most 2 lanes are 55 on the stretch and since you referenced the 2 lanes, this made us think you were doing 80 on a 2 lane. Thanks for clarifying.

Yeah, Escorts are your best bet.

Police Radar Laser Jammers NO More Speeding Tickets! PHANTOM PHAZER Jammers Detectors
I ran this unit (detector/jammer) about 15 years ago. Would work great until you got really close and it would break through. Saved my *** lots of times.
Google GPS gives you info on speed traps that users report.
I do a 600 mile trip to AL every month to haul trailers back, and, while I dont go more than 10 over, hearing a speed trap is ahead, then spotting the cop, helps burn up time.

I use a cheap radar detector in each of my cars, and always are on the lookout for police and am watching for the cars and trucks ahead of me to hit their brakes. It is sure-fire, as they cannot stop themselves from hitting the brakes when they see a cop. If you see that, slow down. Even cheap radar detectors will tell you when police are scanning cars ahead. The instant-on lasers cannot be anticipated (so watch for brake lights as mentioned......).

Why are you constantly speeding to the point you need a radar detector?
Why can't you just obey the law?
What are you doing that's so important that you can't pay attention to what your speed is?
I sure as hell hope your not fiddle fartin around on the phone?
I think your a idiot that only cares about themselves and don't care if others insurance rates go up because of your ignorance and inability to obey the speed laws. Causing issues and putting other drivers in danger with your speeding.
You need to throw that POS away, slow the f%^k down and start going the speed limit!
You asked for my thoughts, think about it!
**** You!

You are a well known idiot!

I don't put anyone in danger!

I'll put myself out there... feel free to offer suggestions...

Based on things I was taught and things I've observed over the years...

1- keep pace with traffic, the person who's insistent on going faster or slower is the hazard, but not the victim often enough.

2- when in the left lane, set the pace or follow, but definitely get the hell out of the way if you're the roadblock.

3- when merging, it is your responsibility to blend into traffic, jumping in front while driving slow causes a lot of others to have to make sudden (potentially dangerous) corrections. Drag racing to beat the vehicle with right of way is stupid too.

I never ever stop to wave someone in, I always try to leave a gap if I've already stopped so they can "zipper" in (I only wave at them if they have no option to do something foolish)... too often the "nice person" who just let someone in causes the line behind them to have to slam brakes (I often show my appreciation with a single finger, maybe that will help them learn).

I don't remember the last time I did triple digits, but freely admit to doing 90 on my last interstate road trip... not the whole way, but when that was the speed of the lane. I do tend to cross 80 on a deserted highway if I'm not paying attention... but I just saw a trooper pull over someone for speeding for the first time in years. Florida, and particularly around Orlando hasn't had any meaningful traffic enforcement for years.

I hate cruise control, and prefer a steady pedal... my DD likes to constantly shift over the small rises when cruising 70-80 mph range. I've never trusted cruise during poor weather conditions either.
