Has anyone converted their c body steering rag joint to a universal joint? Just wondering if it can be done and where to start. I found a replacement rag joint on eBay for like $230. Not looking to spent that much.

If you know exactly what you want, you can mix n match individual pieces from McMaster-Carr for a little less.
U-joints, couplers, shafts, etc.

I just want to know if I can get a u joint to replace the rag joint without having to do some heavy modification and spending an arm and a leg

Ya I definitely want to go to a u joint set up it's just figuring out what will work and how to go about disassembly of the old stuff. Any links on how it's done or suggestions from anyone who has done this?

Well here it is taken out. The length from spline to spline is 9". Am I measuring this correctly? Yes the rag joint is broken so it's just a kind of rough measurement. Sorry for the bad photo

Another pic to show what I'm working with, in the car. Top is the column spline and the bottom is the steering box. Power steering btw.

Do they make some sort of extension that reaches from the steering box shaft to the steering column that will allow a u joint to be used? This is all Chinese to me. Looking forward to learning about all this

Guess I'll be calling flaming river tomorrow. I'll send them these pictures so they know what I'm trying to explain. Maybe they speak Chinese too lol

So to make this thread gold, spline count and shaft diameter for the shafts. Then anyone can order 2 joints and a length of shaft for replacement parts without having to disassemble first.

Column- 3/4"x36

Box-5/8"x36

They look like they have just what I need. 2 u joints and a length of shaft that you can cut to fit. Ask and you shall recieve. This forum is awesome. Thanks for the help guys!!!
