Refurbish time

So I'm assuming hardened valve seats and bronze valve guides? I'm glad your heads were salvageable.
Yes and yes, plus a few other things I asked for. Tomorrow I dive into it. I'll spend this afternoon making sure have everything I need. PLUS Ghost Adventures is on TV tonight and I can't miss that.

Ok question. -So who uses new exhaust manifold gasket when bolting the logs back on and why or why not. I've been told you need to do it because the surface is nolonger completely flat. Also been told.it really isn't needed and will only cause leaks.

No exhaust manifold gasket.

Take a fine flat file to the surfaces, clean and bolt together. Retighten after firing the engine the first time and again after driving it a bit.

Here's another: I got ARP head bolts. They all look ok but they came with washers. The.stock.bolts did not have washers. What to do.with washers. Since they were not needed before why are they needed now?....and actually the ARP long bolts are just a hair longer than the stock bolts. ???

The washers are great. Use them.

They will allow the bolt to be torqued more evenly without the bolt head galling the cast iron.

Get out....
More than a fair price. You did extremely well!!

Yeah, I was/am extremely happy about that. I know he could have charged me more but I got the impression they care more about return customers than hitting you up hard the first time and essentially guarantee no return business. I would/will definitely get more stuff done there.

Disassembled. Hot tanked, magnafluxed, check/inspect tolerances, 3 angle cut, hardened seats, new retainers, guides, etc..... pressure test to make sure they seal properly. Refurbished and ready to go.

I paid $700 for the same thing on the 915s on my Imp and felt that it was a fair deal.

I don't/didn't know what their going rate was. I just called and spoke to the guy a good little while before we agreed on price.

Yeah the guy (Carl) started on them almost immediately after I dropped them off. The place is a family run business. When I returned to pick up my heads I met his wife who does the books. His brothers also work there as well as his son who is apprenticing I guess if you can call it there. Also has 3 other kids who are currently midway through college. In the shop there were all types of cars in various states of assembly or disassembly.....68' Mustang GT fastback, 70' Chevy Chevell, 71' Dodge Dart, Volkswagon, and a slew of modern type cars. Also had a whole bunch of engines that were either being taken apart or rebuilt. Got a couple hemi motors in there as well (older...392, 354). They are easy to work with and will do virtually anything you want or need for a decent price. I called a bunch of shops in the area before this place and most weren't interested in doing only two cylinder heads and/or if they were it was for an outrageous amount of money. So the experience I had here was very good I'd say. SamplingMan...hope you are getting this.

Got it, very cool! I will be looking them up next year for sure, and at $500 well within the budget.
