Tar leaking out of voltage regulator

I was taking out my wiring harness to have it replicated, and noticed this. Sticky tar originating at the voltage regulator dripped all the way onto the transmission bell housing and trails back. Anyone ever seen this before?

Yup. Time to replace

Yeah, potting material leaking. Happens quite frequently over time. Easy and cheap replacement voltage regulator is about $15 - $20.

Even happens to NOS ignition boxes and voltage regulators still in the original box!

Yep, had this on my Chrysler when I bought it. Super easy to replace but takes a while to clean up.

What time is it when an elephant sits on your fence? Same time for this regulator.

I've seen ballasts in florescent light fixtures do this. When it happens over a carpeted floor, yuck!!
