I'm going to service my Torqueflite 727, change filter and change gaskets, but I'm not sure about some things:

-Should I completely drain the transmission and torque converter or only drain the transmission pan?
-How many quarters hold the TF727? or , How many quarrtes should I replace?
-I've read that the transmission will not fill on Parking position, so should I put it on Neutral and start adding fluid before start engine?

Change the trans filter, refill with 4 quarts, disconnect one cooler line at the radiator, put a piece of hose on both sides, put hoses into a drain pan, have someone start the engine in neutral while you hold the hoses, fluid will flow out when the fluid stops shut off engine, refill trans and do again until clean fluid flows, reconnect lines, fill trans, check level in neutral with engine at temp. Hope that helps. This method will get the fluid out of the converter since I am assuming you don't have a flush machine. 8-10 quarts should do it

My goodness ! 10 quarts in the transmission? I didn't suspect the TF727 hold so much fluid

That flush process is required after each filter change?

Not after each filter change if your doing it often or the fluid is really clean. Most of the vehicles I see for trans service have 50,000 to 100,000 on the fluid or have really dirty fluid so we always flush them. 8-10 qts is nothing the modern OD trans can hold up to 16qts

Finally I used 5qts. I drained the pan, changed filter and the fluid that came out was very very clear, pink and shine :D so I only changed the fluid that came out

I didn't find any metal residue but found some strange marks in the pan, so now I don't know if my tranny really needs to be rebuild, I was expecting to see a lot of metalic residue in the pan due to the strange noises of the tranny and the reverse problem, I'm expecting some improve in ride quality once I fix an ignition problem and be able to test the car :)

There is, or should be, a drain plug on the front of the torque converter. After draining and removing the pan, use a remote starter switch and bump the starter until the plug is at the bottom - open and let it drain.

Yes, there is a LOT of fluid in one of those. My catch pan was too small - it makes a real mess!

Go check your local walmart for drip pans. Mine carries 4'x2' drip pans for $11US each. They don't show on Walmarts website but they are very nice when you have to do a job like this. Place the drip pan on the ground, drain pan on top of that.. Most of the mess should be contained.

I use two under the monaco. One pan catches everything from the engine and trans. The other catches the dif.

I forgot to say, there is a small cover, held on by three small bolts, that needs to be removed in order to see this drain lug.

Guys what about the type F fluid? Chrysler manuals says that musn't be used in torqueflite transmissions (904, 727, A500, A518 etc) but a lot of people says that it improves a lot the shift quality
