I'm not sure how you couldn't be angry if you've endured/witnessed the nonesense that's taken place prior to the election.
 
Steve, your view of this is very valid and makes sense. But it's only half of what is true when taken in its entirety.
When it came time for me collect from the contract I willfully abided by literally since birth, and watch it snatched away from me when the contract came due, how should I feel? Grateful?

And here is what made it go beyond the breaking point. I watched what was due to me, being taken away by rich Liberals to people that demanded to be accomodated when they did nothing to earn it except by either showing up on our doorsteps or by being raised in an an entitled environment.
Why do these people get accomodated to things that I am denied?
And why are they accomodated? Because the Democratic party lost their base, the working middle class. So, they saw as a means of survival a way that would make any mega-corporation envious, to take the reserves and stockpiles built up by the working middle class, and donate it to the largest growing population sector to buy their votes.

I'm sorry but you don't put the first Muslim kid into a school and demand that hot dogs be removed from the menu. Or have a kid who is inattentive in school be accomodated with one on one teaching and a specialized costly curriculum pre-k through State College. You slap him on the head and yell at him to pay attention or be punished. Like I was. If I was a child now instead of 60 years ago, I'd be a useless POS entitled to Disability payments for the rest of my life. No, sir. Slap him upside the head and tell him, Pay attention, moron.
F### yah, I'm angry. Don't tell me life is unfair. I already know how unfair it is now. I see it everyday in my own County where, for example, they give teenage unwed mothers free dental care when I need dental work that I can't afford. They are being rewarded for irresponsible behavior. I've been responsible all my life and I'm told, No, you didnt have a baby at 15 and dropped out of high school.

You know Stan, I am not a bleeding heart liberal at all, and was actually a republican for many years. I don't think anything you have mentioned that makes you angry is anything but rightous anger and agree the bleeding hearts have done all of us some harm with some of these entitlement programs that favor the undeserving over those who have paid their dues. And a lot of today's youth seem to have similar attitudes of entitlement and laziness that concern me big time as to what our future generation will do to this country. I am glad I wan't born any later.

But I am the kind of guy that will not jump into anything blind and hope that it will come out OK. On the very few occasions I am guilty of having done that - it never ends well. To me, Trump never gave real specifics about how he planned to govern, only providing a lot of rhetoric of what he would achieve. But even now as I see his initial cabinet choices, I am dismayed at his apparent approach to making America great again. It appears to me that Wall Street will be enabled to do their dirty deeds again, that he must believe a strong Corporate America will result in a new bounty of trickle down jobs for all those willing to work hard. And if his "Art of the Deal" skills are those exemplified in his first meetings with Carrier Corporation, I am really concerned that he doesn't really have good negotiating skills at all. And all of a sudden Romney is his dinner buddy and potential pick for Sec of State?! And giving even more huge tax breaks for the really rich like himself is absolutely the most foolish move of all. He wants to invest at least a trillion dollars in infrastructure development and a ton more money in development of military weapons much more too. Where is this money really going to come from then? One famous book says "a double minded man is unstable in all his ways" and it appear to me Donald fits the statement.

Personally, and I know this won't sit well with most on this site, but I believe many of the persons who are being screwed are being manipulated by a very well orchestrated series of news outlets run by very shrewd rich elites to take the focus off of their unbelieveable share of this country's wealth. They point at all kinds of unfair actions like the ones you have outlined and tend to blame the big problems overall on the poor who get special treatment or the mexicans who illegally come over the border and take their jobs or government sponsered healthcare that those who worked hard can't so easily get. These news outlets generate a lot of anger over the Democratic party's stupid give aways that are unfair to a lot of folks that deserve better treatment than they are getting compared to those who are undeserving. I believe that Fox News, for example, has done this country unbelieveable harm by capitalizing on some stupid moves by some Democrats and getting people so angered that they lose sight over the more fundamental wrongs in this country and effectively shift the focus away from these real causes of most of our problems.

I personally believe that Bernie Sanders had ferreted out all the major problems really facing this country. There are so many who have worked hard all their lives and are now stuggling to make ends meet when obviously those of us who have been alive much longer remember the times when the middle class was prosperous and we didn't have to struggle to have a good life and were able to have health insurance and better lives overall than we have today. Wealth inequality, unbridled big banks that use our money (not their own) to invest in shady housing schemes that really cost us plenty, and our unwillingness to invest in making higher education more affordable so that our technology can be the best in the world as it was in the 50s, 60s and much of the 70s so that we had good jobs and to at least have basic affordable healthcare as a citizen of the U.S. are the real problems we face today IMO. But news outlets such as Fox News easily cast Sanders off as a Socialist or Commnist when he is neither of these in the classical meanings and to call his crusade against the filthy rich as "class warfare" deftly did away with his chances of ever becoming President among those who never looked any deeper into the real causes of the unfairness of the wealth distribution in this country. The wealthy are shrewdly raping the deserving middle class from the quality of lives they have worked hard for more than any other causes of this situation. These news outlets point to the unfairness the middle class faces with huge emphasis on the instances of stupid politicians giving everything away to the undeserving, and yes, there are too many examples that they can point to. But leaving our emotions in their hands to manipulate our thinking has led us down a dangerous path where the people that deserve better end up really angry and voting like puppets for the very people that hold them down, largely because too many people fall for this stuff without looking deeper at the real causes and who really are to blame for our current despair on so many levels. Too much trust has been placed in intentionally misleading "news reports" without really fact checking and keeping an eye on the ball in my view and really knowing the real factors that really cause our biggest problems. Hillary was a lousy choice because she was bought and paid for and her judgment was very bad in so many instances, and while I believe Trump honestly wants to be respected and liked by doing a really good job in his mind, I just don't believe he has the understanding of the big picture or has the intellect to lead us into a renewed level of prosperity in the middle class. I have concluded from what I have seen so far that he is another believer in trickle down economics that in theory should work, but we have seen in the past does not. "Have you ever gotten a job from a poor man" kind of mentality was effective in the past to get buy in to that theory, but in practice it didn't work and won't again I believe. But I hope I am wrong and his deal making skills with Carrier Corporation (parent is United Technologies - one of the biggest defense contractors with the federal government) was just an initial fluke. Bernie had the causes of injustice correct in my evaluation and he had the fire in his belly (but admittedly not the Democratic party's support) to make good things happen that would really effectively change the unfairness the middle class is experiencing for all the right reasons. And even if you don't believe in Global warming, other countries do, and with their belief in its reality and graduating more college level engineers than we are putting out, they will take the lead in developing the new technologes that the world will crave, and we will fall even more behind by resurrecting coal mining and reliance on new reserves of oil to fuel our economy as the rich oil barons would like us to do and as Donald is promising he will do. It is a short sighted way to go forward in terms of more and better jobs.

Unfortunately Stan, I really do not believe Trump will make your life any better at all, and I truly believe he will make it significantly worse despite his well meaning intentions - he has not identified the real causes of our loss of greatness accurately IMO - despite his sincere beliefs. I realize he is claimed to be wealthy so he must be a smart businessman. But I personally don't think he really knows much about what he is doing outside of real estate. And I don't think he knows much about history or what has been tried in the past and failed. But I truly hope my initial impressions are very wrong for all of our sakes. And a parting thought - the good book says that "it will be easier for a camel to thread the eye of a needle than it will be for a rich man to enter into heaven" - I think we are seeing why being played out in full view. Their greed is unbridled these days especially. Way too many are suffering and without hope. That is a tragedy for this country compared to what it once was.

Well said fellow member. Now I will chime in again with some of the things that make me angry with BOTH parties.
1. The thing that angers me the most is how many people do not take the time and follow the politicians, and their records in office. Like many veterans we did not put on our uniform to defend your right to vote for you to sit on your butt and not use it. I used to be involved in politics when I lived in Chicago and watched how the elected officials manipulated the system. Good candidates got left behind if they did not play the system.
2. It really burns me up about Social Security, I have paid into this for the last 45 years, now that I am old and my health has gone away, I have had to fight the last two years for it and still have a year ahead of me before this will go to court.
3. I want to see welfare be changed to require anyone who is on it to pass a drug test every month to get their check. I am not saying not to help those who are needy, just use the money spent to help the ones who need it. With all the money we have in this country, their should not be ONE homeless or unemployed veteran. PERIOD. The powers in Washington have screwed up the veterans administration so much I will not ever walk back into one again.
4. Big business moving the jobs out of the country and getting all the tax breaks that make them rich, and us poor. if they want to make their product somewhere else, then put a tariff on it and send the money to fund unemployment. Some will say the problem is with the unions that work to guaranty workers rights, that union people get to much money, and yes some are over paid, but without them we would all be poor, no middle class.
5. Illegal immigration, I have no problem with anyone coming to this country and trying to make a better life. I have a problem with those who come here and DO NOT contribute to the system. It really burns me up about women coming here from other countries illegally, giving birth to their children, then can't be sent back because now their kids are citizens. Then they use the system and take away from the others.
I just really hope that this election makes the politicians in this country take notice and get up off their butts and start working for this country instead of bleeding it dry for themselves. But this will probably not happen.

Although I realize Trump is literally the bull in the China Shop, he is my last and only hope. At this point in my life, I am giving him my support because there's no one else.

Anybody else, I would have a zero chance of a more positive attitude. Trump has at least given me 50/50 odds. And that ain't bad.
 
I am saddened that you feel that way - it shouldn't be.

My simple point is that the paid for press that gets all the anger stirred up over the stuff that takes the change out of your pocket over black lives matter, freedom to bear arms, its the Mexican's fault, Hillary's emails, etc. an nauseum, have a simple purpose: It is to take the public's eyes off the rich bastards, big banks and corporations that are stealing the hundred dollar bills from your wallet, and the public doesn't even realize it is taking place because rich con artists have the public hating the things that don't affect their lives nearly as much as the take-all-the-spoils rich. And then the public is voting the bastards into office!! What the hell do people expect then?! The rich are shrewd, smart and screwing those of us who aren't keeping an eye on them and not really trying to figure out where all the money is going. I am a numbers guy, and an engineer, and I have to understand what is taking place before I can rest or even repair one of my cars effectively.

Guys like Bernie Sanders could change your future in ways you wouldn't believe, but you won't support him because you have been led astray by the people that can't get enough money (how many billions of $$ does it take to make their lives complete?) and the rich and corporate planners and big banks watch blissfully and smugly while the rest of us fight among ourselves and mayhem is created everywhere. They must be laughing big time and scorn us for being so duped. I am hoping Trump fully succeeds in waking a lot of people up for change. He is already doing the opposite of his campaign promises big time. What a joke he is. Next he will succeed in getting our "entitlements" like social security cut, the programs that we have paid into most of our lives and have EARNED, not been given as entitlements!

Don't give up in a whimper, rather, look around and fight for what we deserve and dump the people that are stealing from us. This country is great, we work harder than ever, and our pockets are drained and we are despondent?! It is time to figure out why, damn it and fight back! We have only ourselves to blame for being distracted "hugely" and fooled and screwed. Yeah, I am righteously angry! But I also take rest in the fact that the Lord is still there watching all of this take place, and a time is coming...................................like he said.

The Angry Man believes the Constitution should be interpreted as it was written. It is not as a “living document” open to the whims and vagaries of appointed judges and political winds.

I can guarantee you that even the angry man would have problems with the 1787 Constitution being interpreted exactly as written. Read through it and you will find nothing about equal rights as it was written back then as it applied only to white men. Although the Ninth Amendment is wide open for interpretation. On top of that the Declaration of Independence says this "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness"

Those bold words encompass a lot. Can you have liberty if you are discriminated against? Can you pursue happiness if the State or Federal government discriminates against or doesn't recognize you? To me one must look both at the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution at the same time. In some ways the Declaration says what we are supposed to be in a simpler more elegant way in those words. Even still the Declaration has to be considered a living document since back then all men meant all white men and no one else.

On another point who says the angry man has not already treated the Constitution as a living document as he already has done so. Not to mention is angry man referring to the original version with just the 10 Amendments?

i could and may be wrong, but we all know that trump is shrewd. i have a suspicion that his cabinet , although fat cats, are people that can be controlled by trump. he does not seem to be one who makes decisions like that without a strategy in mind.
as far as the states who voted democrat, maybe life is better there. most of the country IS desperate for change. we are holding on by a rapidly disappearing thread. there was no future with hillary, except for more of the same. even if trump doesn't do as promised, the people HAVE spoken. politicians now (hopefully) realize the little people have power. the candy store is closing.
the news has always been corrupt and one sided. it is about sensationalism, ratings and awards. it's a business. no one would watch a monotone talking head.
am i an angry man, no. i am a realist. i am a lower middle class , paycheck to paycheck, american. i work hard so that everyone else can have a piece of my pie while i struggle to keep what i have. fingers crossed trump does as promised. maybe i can move up to middle, middle class :)
 
I suck. I wanted Donnie for one simple reason... I did not want Hilary... Period. I would have been happy to see Bernie have a chance, but he never did.

I have to ask, is the reason you wanted Hilary because you had so much faith in her as a person that you were sure she was the best choice to lead us? Or did you feel she was only better than Donnie? If your goal was to prevent Donnie from taking office... you did what I did in reverse.

Don't ask me why I love Donnie, I don't. I simply believe he was the better realistic choice of the two.

I wish I could believe the next 4 years will make everything ok... they were going to suck either way (but I do hope not too bad). IF the only good to come of this is that aspiring politicians and the working population start to notice we still have a voice, I might call it a win. In the meantime:

Seems like "the people" in the mid-west have spoken. If we were actually going to listen to "the people", would we not be electing by popular vote? Last I heard, HC had a lead of over 2 million in the actual vote count...

Up to this election, I couldn't see any logic in keeping the Electoral College in this day of age.
It was originally created to prevent small intense geographical clusters of voters steamrolling over the rest of the nation.
Seems like the system still works after all.
I'm fine with it now that I've revisited Civics 102.
 

It is interesting that at least here on the left coast, we voted for Hillary 2 to 1 over Donald (but I had to hold my nose in voting for her and only because Donald is mental it seems to me). That is probably because our economies are generally pretty good, with emphasis on new technology development, very good schools and universities, lots of job opportunities and a popuation that supports fighting global warming and a democratic base. Racisism is also minimal and people here get along pretty well in part probably because the economy is good. So many Trump supporters in the middle of the country support the Republican view of how an economy should run and the conservative politicians in general with their economic policies that don't work. And look where they are.............. And we supported Bernie Sanders, but not enough unfortunately. So you figure out what works................ After Bush destroyed our economy, Obama has brought it back again and hopefully it will continue to expand to the middle of the country in time too. We will see. I am not hopeful with Donald wanting to visit trickle down yet again and with same Republican politicians that currently fill the swamp again and now control both houses and giving further huge tax breaks to the very rich and corporations that will probably continue to ship jobs overseas anyway given his discussion with Carrier.
