valve covers on wrong side?

Trans linkage spring (mistakenly called kickdown linkage by many) is in wrong location. Look in your FSM at the adjustment procedure and you'll see a good diagram.

Which manual am I looking at, 69 or 70?

According to the 70 FSM, neither are on there correctly. He had the throttle return spring through the cotter pin/clip hole. Looks like I've got it figured out thanks to the FSM.

Also, I was thinking of getting a couple new springs. The ones on there look original. Any particular type I need to look for?

the springy type.lol unless your springs are rusting then just fuff them and clearcoat them.
