Those are for using your squeeze oil can to oil the bearings while running. Like they did on triple expansion steam engines.

You realize that the oil pan comes off so that doesn't have to be done to remove the rod bolts...
 
Is that recent carnage?
 
Man, that sucks. I feel your pain. I put a few grand into a 360 and busted a set of rod cap bolts. The block is fine however. What's the story behind your "holes"?

 
Yeah, it happened Mother's day weekend. The hell of it is that I won the round and was going into the final. Three quarters of the ways down the track, I lost all power! Broke a rod, sent it through the block and it was all over for me that day.

It could have been worse though. I could have put a hole in my oil pan, oiled up the slicks, and wound up on my roof!

Oh well, my buddy is getting the next bullet ready, should be back in action in a couple weeks!?

Sucks to see but unfortunately that's racing sometimes.

Like you said, at least you didn't get it on your tires down at the big end of the track.
