Location
Carlisle, Pa
The hotel/convention center that Carlisle Events was planning to build has been scrapped, they now intend to sell the property to a developer. for those that have been here, this is the location of an old manufacturing plant on Carlisle Spring Road between the fairgrounds and the center of town.

That's a shame. That building was still in the process of being torn down while we were there, right?

It's been "being torn down" for a couple of years now.

OK, let's make the Carlisle show field bigger with that land. LOL!

Cool....Az long az they don't up the price of the Amigo rentalz that getz my vote. Anything will be an improvement over the old brick 'n concrete pile. Remindz me of way too much of the city across the river from Windsor, Ontario.

That building was old but a shame to see it go, abt 1200 good jobs went along with it......happening all over America, Detroit and Kenosha will make you sick compared to what they once were to the economy. And they sign another free trade agreement, put up a store that sells Chinese made stuff, pay employees around min wage and claim we are moving forward.

BULLSHIT, I say.........F*CKING BULLSHIT..........Excusez mon Francais. It is blatantly obvious our best days are so far gone they are no longer visible in the rear view mirror.

Any word why Mark?

No, my wife heard this at the Cumb Valley Lodging Assoc meeting, it was announced that they expect to sell the property instead, but no reason was given.

Funny, the Carlisle Tire and Wheel plant was closed several years ago and that has just been torn down as well, I can only guess it will be developed into townhouses or something of that nature. I would think the plant property we are discussing will have the same fate; however, there is still a question of what will occur with the large parking lots on the opposite side of the road that were part of the plant......no word on whether or not they will keep them or sell them as well. They pulled the listing for the Expo Center so it appears (at least for now) that they will continue to use that for their auctions and other activities.

I speak French!

It was sad seeing the former shell of Detroit's industry power when I went to visit Matt. Same thing in Milwaukee/Kenosha and Wisconsin in general...the blue collar industry powerhouse of America for a century. A lot of great companies long gone.

Yep... New Process Gear is gone from Syracuse to Mexico... for a lot of reasons, but mostly because Daimler Benz sold the place to a Canadian company.

Carrier manufacturing is gone from Syracuse too. They had been threatening for years... then made good on the threat... Hillary was state senator then. She came into town and said "why didn't they say something"? She had her elbow right on the pulse of what goes on...

Loosing Remington Arms in nearby Illion. NY passed its not so SAFE anti gun act... or I should say jammed the SAFE act down the throats of NY residents. They'll be moving to a state where they are welcomed.

Yes, just like she did with Benghazi....so much for that argument she and Obama had during the 2008 campaign, the 3 am phone call came and neither of those deadbeats bothered to pick up the phone. Unfortunately she will have another 8 years to continue her 'dedication', this time as the prez.

I'd swear the candidates get worse every 4 yrs - on both sides~

Beretta is leaving the People's Republic of Maryland and moving to Tennessee.

FIrst, I offer no personal commentary on why the state of world affairs are as they are, nor offer any commentary on any persons' views in this thread so far

Personally though, I do NOT like to see American people and their communities disrupted when businesses make whatever decisions they think they need to make, be it folks running the local grocery store or Carlisle or GM or Deutsche Bank..whoever/wherever.

Saddens me as it does many of you..and I dont like it anytime/anywhere in the world I have seen it.

I am reminded of this scene from this movie. In 1978 (movie came out in '76 though - I was in high school), I barely understood a word the character giving the lecture was saying. It seemed "logical" but I just couldnt grasp the economic fundamentals of the character's arguments.

Nearly 40 years later, with some business education and training, and my gray chin suggesting i have "been around the block", I understand now.

Yes its "dramatized" below for effect and its "dated" in its references...but there is some stuff relevant to the stuff we see happening today. Also, dont forget the memorable phrase that came outta this movie...people still use it today.

Guys MY age have see the rise and fall of America.
From it's peak as #1 in international power (for good or bad - a lot of bad) to it's decline to where we a socialist country, governed by Moslems, owned by China, and populated by Hispanics.
I'm a truly a very compassionate person but it saddens me that you are all now Flucked and will never see what I have seen. And that is a true tragedy.
Look at the stories Jer, Will, I, et all talk about.
Your stories will never be that good.
I'll say it again for all of you who do not see my daily life. I'm a truly a very compassionate person. Hold your judgements until....

I think what I'm saying is that I've done OK but it is hard to truly enjoy it all because of what I see all around me now.
How can I enjoy what I have now through hard work from all the opportunities I had available to me when I see all our youth are uneducated and unable to make a living wage even when educated? I can't.

I think there are opportunities out there... I just think they are much different and no where near as plentiful as they were when I was young. You have to be more flexible and have to look for them, rather than just wandering into a big union factory and filling out a application. Those days are gone and I don't ever see them coming back... at least in my lifetime.

There are opportunities...you have to make them yourself.

Look at Ross....perfect example of living the American Dream!

There is a lot of risk going in to business for your self. You have to be very motivated and have a bulletproof business plan.
