I was getting into my car this morning and a guy pulled up in a Jeep and told me that he was the 2nd owner of my car. He gave me a bunch of history about the car including how it got some of its small scratches and dents. He confirmed that the top is original (still perfect). He also told me that it has always been owned by someone in our neigborhood with the exception of the guy I bought it from and whom he sold it to. That guy never even registered the car and only had it for a few weeks while he got it roadworthy and flipped it to me for a few hundred bucks profit. I got the guys card and am going to catch up with him later. I might be able to track down the original wheels!

I would like to know the history of my car. How do you go about doing that with all the laws protecting our privacy.

Start with the guy who sold you the car. Get as much info as you can off of him. Then go to your state's department of records and see if they can give you the ownership history. In some cases there will be a pretty good fee for them to go to the old paper records (if they still have them).

Once you have the names, you can google pretty much anyone or anything these days. You have to be a detective and you can't be afraid to call or email people.

The two pieces of information I used to track down two prior owners of my Fury were the Certi-Card that was thankfully still under the hood and an old registration from the 80s or 90s that was in the glove compartment. Then it was an hour or two of Google and I had phone numbers of both gents. It was quite the treat to speak to the guy that bought my nearly 50-year-old car brand spankin' new off the showroom floor.

The people that ordered my car new were ecstatic to hear from me. Went to their house and out to lunch with them twice... It truly is a fortunate experience..

How old was he? Hadda be in his 80s

He was 75 last January when I talked to him. Bought the car when he was 26 or 27. He was in the Navy and traded a troublesome Austin Healey 3000 for it as I recall.

I tried online to locate the original Plymouth dealer in Millington, TN, but couldn't find anything.

So many of the old dealers are gone, its a damn shame

Peter's Dodge in Milwaukee was one of the biggest Mopar Performance car dealer's in the Midwest. They had between 100-150 1965-1973, mostly B's and E's and some A's. They were big time performance car dealer's from the mid 1960's through the 1970's. I bought both my Super Bee and Challenger from them. I don't know when they sold out (1980's or 1990's maybe) I was long gone in the Army. It's a Chrysler dealer now. It looked liked a mini Carlisle. LOL!

I wish those days were back!!!
