One of my winter projects

Note to others while on the subject of compressors.
In my research, all the RV2 compressors available come without the clutch.
The FSM says when R&R-ing the clutch the clutch bearing must (their words) be replaced. Well, you are not going to find one. After a day of cross referencing, and digging deep into the deep dark bowels of bearing suppliers I found ONE guy who had ONE left. Evidently they are so scarce, I sold my used one on eBay for more than I paid for the new one.

If this is the original compressor to the car, I'd be afraid of getting a rebuilt unit that wasn't "date correct", but then again that may not be a consideration for the project.
If it is the original compressor to the car I would rather do what I could to keep it.

Cool. Matt's going to start a thread on How To Rebuild Your RV2 Compressor... ;-)

Big John makes a good point if you could dye the system before it comes apart you might find a hose or condenser pin hole, those compressors are as tough as they look. I see you have stuff pulled apart but some shop air into system after the dye shoot it in on low side then chase with shop air bleeding Schrader valve on opposite side to move dye through the whole system.

A new erp valve a cleaning and gaskets /seal and a change to pag oil and that's about it.
There is a split of opinion right down the middle on keeping the EPR valve or not when converting.
In both if my conversions I chose to eliminate them.
Their purpose was to prevent the system from icing up but the lower efficiency of the R134A requires them to be removed.
So "they" say.....
I take no stand.

I left mine in its even old so maybe it doesn't work the air is cold enough for around here. I'm having trouble with the blower drawing too much current popping the fuse I have another one going to try that next season.

Well I took the compressor off on Saturday and today the engine came out but do I understand you correctly that I could hook the lines back up to the compressor and pressurize it? All of the a.c. Hoses, tubes etc. appear to be in good condition although I know at 43 years old there may be condition issues. I haven't touched anything besides the compressor yet. Continuing thanks guys.

That's what I would do, you may just have a simple o ring leaking which you are going to replace with green ones for the retrofit.

The shop has quite a comfy apartment in it Stan, I'd love to have you up to give me a hand on this project. As far as pressurizing the system, it sounds like another job for the leak down tester I built last year.

And then we can go house hunting.
Visit shelters for a dog.
I can feed you the ¾" Oak veneered MDF as you cut it up into panels for your next job.
And can we please please please go to the museum, daddy. Um.. Er.. Matt?

A gold star for paying attention Stan! We are currently house hunting so we can get out of the townhouse that has a 20lbs weight limit for dogs. You'd always be welcome here Stan and yes we can go to any museum you want except the WPC as its closed 363 days of the year. Btw, got engaged last month!

Wouldn't that be fun??? I'd love to have places like that to hunt but I'm not sure any are left here in MI.
