The 383 was available in 71 not in 72. I have to tell you the story is awfully fishy, even if she told you that common sense leaves you thinking otherwise. What is the Y code on the fender tag or build sheet?
Somewhere along the life of the car , parts were changed, not when it was built

I had a 383 in my 71'..was gonna mention that but figured someone would get to it sooner or later.

It is tagged and titled as a 71 but was a special order so it had the 70 treatment done at the factory as the 383 was not available in 71 it has 71 interior but front and rear appear to be 70 the woman that ordered it was a Chrysler Executive's wife..she wanted a new one but she didn't like the 71 front end look so her husband fixed the order she called it.
We heard and hashed thru this exact same storyline here a long time ago. I can't find it because the search function here is still attending kindergarten. Can anybody else find it?

I don't think so. My memory gets distorted over time but I know we went thru this once before with an owner. I searched to no avail to make sure and to refresh my memory.

Somebody had a car he was selling as a 71 and it was delivered with a 70 trim or nose or something. Klaus and Carsten are good for remembering this stuff.

Probably a Chrysler.... I don't recall the situation. My brain is apparently keeping company with the search function

So a Chrysler Executive ordered the car for her in 1971, but since she liked the looks of the 1970 better, he had the factory find/install a hideaway headlight grille, bumper, and hood from the year before? Sounds plausible to me, and explains why the hood is flat back (probably rare factory primer!) while the rest of the car has original paint, as I'm sure they did not have time to paint a year old NOS hood to match the rest of the car (can't keep that assembly line shut down too long). I wonder if they went to the trouble of hooking up those rare hood mounted turn signal indicators while they had the assembly line shut down. Those are one of my favorite features on my 70 Custom Suburban (or maybe it's really a 71 or 69, I'll have to go check my data plate).

I added the cowl tag photo to the craigslist add. post id: 4890809724 :comp26: I'm not sure how to add the link. I am open to reasonable offers the price listed is just a starting point. I don't need to sell in a hurry just need to sell a couple of my Mopar's to make room for a couple more of my projects and put some $$$ in my Daughter's college fund:crybaby2:

The turn signals work......I primed the hood black because it was badly scratched, I was on my way to a total repaint and my body guy said it would be best to leave as much original paint on the car as possible as it was in perfect condition other than the hood. The hood was the same color as the car before I primed it. I had 3 other body/mopar restoration guys look at it and they all assured me that was not a repaint. The inside of the trunk is the same color and all the original jack stickers are there. Chrysler and Plymouth both had put out a few carry over or customer ordered cars. Check the cowl tag I added to the Craigslist post to decode any questions you might have. Thanks!

A 1971 sport Fury 383 L code built in January isn't anything amazing. I think you should correct the year , list it as what it is and lose the far fetched story.
But....it's your car, do what you need to. Either way, a 71 sport Fury isn't something to sneeze at

Good luck.......

Carry over car? It's coded as a Y14, not an exec car unless the sheet says different.

If it were I would presume the car would be loaded up with cool options and colors. The grille wasn't that different from year to year, either way, you got hideaways

I changed the add to a 70 bodied 1971??? Might work better. The story is what Marie told me??? She could be full of crap too!!! She did give me 1970 and 1971 Sales Brochures that she had made notes in and in the condition they are in I'm sure she had them a long time they go with the car....I have a copy of the order sheet for the car and it has a 1970 owners manual in it I'm sure that could have been added over the years hard to say I have owned the car for sometime and have enjoyed it but time to got need to start on the Cuda.

It has all the nicest interior and has a some unusual options every thing but A/C, Power Windows and F/M radio. Green top and 2 tone green vinyl and cloth interior??

I can post a copy tonight it is a hand written on form, from the dealer in MI. I am at work till 6pm MST I will try to link it then so you can see it.

Looks like a straight forward 1971 Sport Fury to me. Build sheet may show something different, but the tag won't say anything about a 70 grille, and for some reason I can't find anything for the W31 wheel code. Also, I must say, and this is probably just me, Galen Govier may be the God of Cuda, and the B body set, but once I see that name used in a C body ad my brain kind of shuts down and I move on. Still, it's a nice car.
