After seeing a photo today of a 1971 Plymouth Fury coupe ("23"roof) I am now curious to know if there was ever any 1970 models of this same style in the fury range (coupe) used as cop cars? There are a number of examples of the formal roof type cars in two doors used in police service for 1969 but that's about all I have found or knew about. Anyone have any pics of other fusey coupes used as cop cars?

Although I do not have any pictures - there would of been ‘70 Coupes used throughout the early to late 70s as the cars aged.
I cannot tell you how many agencies would of opted for them specifically and made a purchase but many of them would of came in through impound, drug seizures, etc.
Some agencies would of also ordered a coupe variant as “interceptors” or for High Speed Pursuit situations. Most notably CHP and other western territories with open country. And then there is the obvious unmarked units, police chiefs car, local sheriff who drives whatever he wants, etc.

It goes without saying if found - the vehicle is mostly likely going to be a Fury I or II post car, as it would of been a bit more difficult to justify ordering a III as a vehicle that will be used and abused, unless it was as stated, chiefs, sheriffs, agents car etc. If used as an interceptor or unmarked it is likely to have a performance or power oriented engine and rear end setup.
Many of these cars may be indistinguishable by VIN, Fender Tag and Build Sheet and may only be known by local town/neighborhood history due to them not often not being directly ordered by the police agency.

I do hope someone has some more pictures as that would be cool to see. Maybe @MrMoparCHP

The CHP last used a 2-door in the 50s (aside from the Camaro and Mustang)

My knowledge of police package cars is largely limited to the CHP and for the most part the further you get from 69 the fuzzier it gets.

Gettin' "fuzzy" about "fuzzcars"?
I have always had a soft spot for a cop car, wanting to restore one to original condition. Of course, not any old car will do, I have to pick the one that is as rare as hens teeth.

That's very interesting, I don't think I've ever seen a 23 hard top roof line on a police car. It makes since that they would NOT have used them because police vehicles are almost always sedans because of the increased body rigidity for sever duty.

I believe only Plymouth and only through 1971 were 2-door sedans offered in fuselage c-bodies and I think those are the only fuselage 2-doors I've seen as police cars other than the RI State Police car in your first pic.

It certainly made me sit up and take notice.

The plot thickens, It looks like RISP didn't have an aversion to using 2-door hardtops. This one looks like a 76 but definitely a 2-door hardtop.

This is right up Stan's (@commando1 ) alley.
Jeezes, Gary. You've got me pegged. I was pondering long and hard at that pic when you posted.
In that 70'era when the RISP was using Formal Fury's, I was running nightly back and forth thru RI and I got to know those guys and their cars intimately. Same Traps at the same locations every night. Same troopers at the same donut shops, etc. Lol.
Anyway, you caught me wracking my brain trying to remember if they were two dr. hdtps.

Born, raised, educated, partied, got Kavanaughed, lived and worked in Boston all my life.
Came to Florida to die. :p

Virginia, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Nebraska, Georgia and Minnesota (?) ran the 2 door Pursuit cars..and likely some other States I’m not aware of.

The 440 2 door Pursuit cars are the rarest of the lot.

I’ve only seen 4, 1969, 440 2 door Pursuit cars in 30 years of searching, and one of them was scrapped... I have 3 in my registry.
