I am now curious to know if there was ever any 1970 models of this same style in the fury range (coupe) used as cop cars? There are a number of examples of the formal roof type cars in two doors used in police service for 1969 but that's about all I have found or knew about.
Although I do not have any pictures - there would of been ‘70 Coupes used throughout the early to late 70s as the cars aged.
I cannot tell you how many agencies would of opted for them specifically and made a purchase but many of them would of came in through impound, drug seizures, etc.
Some agencies would of also ordered a coupe variant as “interceptors” or for High Speed Pursuit situations. Most notably CHP and other western territories with open country. And then there is the obvious unmarked units, police chiefs car, local sheriff who drives whatever he wants, etc.
It goes without saying if found - the vehicle is mostly likely going to be a Fury I or II post car, as it would of been a bit more difficult to justify ordering a III as a vehicle that will be used and abused, unless it was as stated, chiefs, sheriffs, agents car etc. If used as an interceptor or unmarked it is likely to have a performance or power oriented engine and rear end setup.
Many of these cars may be indistinguishable by VIN, Fender Tag and Build Sheet and may only be known by local town/neighborhood history due to them not often not being directly ordered by the police agency.
I do hope someone has some more pictures as that would be cool to see. Maybe
