My 2018 RAM Longhorn

Thank Graham.. the window on the one I was drooling over was 71K.. WHAT????? That’s right! I said 71K.. a few options I could do without, but ya know how it goes! To get one option you do want, it’s packaged with options you don’t. We’ll see though. I’m always Leary of “First year” productions. Although the rams been around for decades, the NEW tooling and options can come with gremlins. I REALLY like it though.

You only live once.... go for it!

Go after it.....you won't be disappointed.

Negotiate, negotiate, negotiate!

You can probably get $15k off the sticker price.

Graham can probably give you the best strategy.

I would get a 19 Longhorn Laramie but I have a lot of extras in my 18 Longhorn already and it's a one year only Southfork Edition. Plus i like it a lot. However....I would like the dual pane sunroof instead of the one pane that I have in mine.
What’s the “Southfork” have that’s above the Laramie Longhorn edition?

Amen to that.. Cept I have a Wife that doesn’t see it that way. Lol. Her favorite say’en! “ A fool and his money are soon parted” I said “Ya!” And your point???? Lol

2018 RAM 1500, 2500 AND 3500
SOUTHFORK
The 2018 Ram Southfork features premium upgrades to escalate luxury and comfort. A fresh Walnut Brown exterior with monotone or two-tone option shows that hardworking can also be good looking. Like what you see on the outside? Step on inside to the new Canyon Brown and Frost leather seats design with an interior detailed with Walnut color wood and galvanized metal interior accents. Versatile and powerful, this edition is available in Light and Heavy Duty.

Yup best truck we have ever built they say....of course priced accordingly..
Graham, what is this under the hood of the Ram? “E torque” or something like that? I’ve heard of an option that gives the truck extra torque above what the tranny provides..

That is the E-torque. It replaces the alternator and is a 10 hp engine or whatever they call it. I don't believe it gives any extra overall torque but provides around 100 ft/lbs of torque when at a stop. It also has something to do with the engine stop and start mode. Another words the engine shuts off at a stop and starts back up when you start to move I think. Go to the dealer, they have a real nice flyer 10 pages or so for the 2019 Ram. I just got my oil change done at the dealer and read it yesterday and I'm probably getting the definition all wrong today.

You did good Bob. The E-Torque system is a 48V electric motor/battery/alternator that adds additional torque during start/stop and towing situations. It replaces the traditional battery and uses regenerative braking to charge itself. It increases fuel mileage by 2-3mpg apparently. Have driven one recently was kinda cool but like most new innovative tech - time will tell about reliability.

Cut it out... you ride a train to work...

Invest in something practical like more Formals...

IMO you'll regret that if you keep the truck long enough to pay for the repairs later on... 40v is the threshold for dangerous voltage, so at that point you can become an overdone piece of bacon working on it yourself.

Agree on all counts.....

I wouldn't think about working on any electric cars at all.

I have less of a problem with the electric part... my big issue is there are really no standards, that I know of, to make working on them safe. Each change or model has it's own training (available to the select few) and they can have huge differences in repair procedures.

As far as I understand, commercial electricity has codes and standards to maintain safety (at least when followed). Industrial electricity, like ships or locomotives, don't get poked at by the kid at Firestone. When these vehicles come out of warranty, that's just who is most likely to get killed by one. The common misconception that "only the orange wires are dangerous" is a huge problem... I know of no such standard, but have seen orange used in airbags, as well as almost any other color you can think of... and sections of black on hybrids high voltage lines.

Considering the lifespan a privately owned vehicle may have, these will become more dangerous as they age and become obsolete. My 99 'burb is old enough to scare some of the youngsters... and its still a fairly simple vehicle. OBD I vehicles are having an increasingly hard time finding shops equipped to deal with them, and try to find a tech with a timing light in most shops...

Always looking out for my best interest, that’s why love you Jeff. :icon_fU:

This e torque thing is gonna end up being a short term aberration no different than Lean Burn.
People down the road with this thing are going to experience the same hell Imp owners experienced with their FI.

Chrysler seems to be going forward with E-torque on everything soon.

I haven't heard of any problems with it so far on the 19's.

Bump....

Any luck Graham?

My guy can tell me the Canadian production number which was a little over 300 so extrapolate that as 10% of the total production you get approximately 3000 in the US. Still working on an exact number for you Bob. Up here it wasn’t called Southfork for obvious reasons although the option code is the same.

So,,,, what was it called up there? North Pole Edition?

Lol no it was called the Longhorn Special Edition. Pretty lame IMHO but we wouldn't want to offend anyone who didn't identify as being from Southfork....could have called it the SouthPark Edition as far as I am concerned...
