1957 Chrysler New Yorker "Ella"

Nice score!!

These cars were known to rust as they left the dealer. So, how is the trunk?
Trunk is pretty solid.

That is nice to know . Unfortunately I will never put money into them. It will get disc brakes.

Car looks great, trouble with the 57's was the rushed production, and consequent poor build quality as they'd have probably been better as 58's.

The original owner certainly looked after her, I wish you happy motoring once sorted.

What a beauty, more pics of the interior please!

Back when those were "used cars", I remember reading about how difficult it was to adjust the brakes "right", due to their more complicated design. BUT Chrysler products usually had much better brakes than Ford or GM, back then.

I recall reading about the issues of "assembly quality". Allegedly water leaks at the front and rear corners of the windshield and rear glass. I believe that if you look closely, there's a sort fo "drain trough" on the inside of where the windshield seal is. Then look in the corners, where the glass makes that tight turn, and I believe you'll see a small hole in each corner, two front and two rear. Then look underneath that area and you'll probably see a small rubber hose disappear to the outside of the car. I first saw those on a '57 Imperial when it was under restoration, in the earlier 1980s. I saw the same thing in the trunk of a '56 Chevy! As if they suspected that new-curved glass would leak some, so they make concessions for that ever happening. Not unlike the 4-corner drain tubes for a modern sunroof vehicle.

In those earlier days, the "parking brake" was termed "Emergency Brake". Remember that when one of the dual-circuits goes away, stopping distances will increase a good bit.

The car is BEAUTIFUL! Always did like those cars! Flashy and Classy at the same time.

I have owned my '59 Imperial since 1988. At that time the brakes were completely redone. As I drive it seldom because of other cars I own. I thought the brakes were just a poor design as it took a lot of pedal effort to stop. Then a couple of years ago my mechanic neighbor got out the service manual and readjusted the brakes. Wow, what a world of difference. I cannot say enough of the difference. I would suggest adjusting them correctly before you think about converting them to another type of brake system.

awesome score. nice car. when the warm weather comes if you have any overheating issues you might want to consider making a fan shroud or if you have the original one adapting it to the new rad. good luck with your beauty.

Look at that clean/dry/rust-free trunk pan - in a '57 no less - WOW, definitely a keeper, and keep us posted on the progress......

Yes, i am suprised at how clean it was in there. the 2 rear corners have a little bit of rot in them but the floor is solid as can be.
