68 Fury III Resurrection in MA

Based on my personal experience I recommend removing the bumper the the brackets. If the bumper is in good shape and will be put back on do not try to remove it from the brackets as the bumper bolts can be difficult to remove.

Nice Fury! For what it’s worth, I’ve discovered over the years that most times it pays to take a deep breath and expect the worst on these projects. Don’t be afraid to do more disassembly than you initially thought would be necessary to get at the task at hand. It seems like more work sometimes but, it makes the job much less frustrating I’ve found.
I’m the worst for being impatient and wanting to get one on the road but, after a few bubble busting discoveries I find putting myself in a lower gear and just enjoying the journey makes it much more enjoyable.

I am definitely a "get er done" guy and will dive in two feet. So somebody upstairs was also i should take my time - travel for work, throw in a snow storm, a gym meet, short hours and frozen bolts....and the realization comes.

I did decide to wait for the weather to turn so I can take the car outside and remove the tank. I think that any residual gas that leaks on the garage floor may be with us for a long time. :) Then remove the rear bumper.

Question - Does anyone have a diagram of the rear bumper assembly? It appears that there are supposed to be 3 bolts attached to the frame (each rail)? If so - the middle bolts of the 3 are broken off...or is it a "stud" to help set the bracket? Is there a recommended service manual for the Plymouth Fury? Mopar, Chilton or Haynes? that may go a long ways itself.

Thx all.

The biggest favor that you can do for yourself is to buy a Plymouth 1968 Passenger Car service manual and a Chrysler 1968 parts book. The parts book should provide you with the diagram that you seek. These are available on CD but I prefer paper. Search on eBay. Here's a paper service manual at a good price:

Hi folks. 68 Fury III Resurrection Update. Slowed down a bit due to traveling. I had a chance to work on it a bit with the nice weather last weekend......even gave it a bath after sitting 20 years. Still plenty to do but looking good.

Here are some pics after some simple soap and water......CLEAN!

Last round.... trunk pans need to be patched/replaced in the future. Sourcing a front stub frame to ultimately replace the torsion bar cross member....may have found one in NY (from TX originally so I am told). Everything else still going according to plan. Clean car helps me stay encouraged to keep moving. :)

Cleaned up pretty good!

Has anyone seen another 4 speed Fury convertible other than the blue- blue interior car.
Does anyone know what happened to the black-white interior car?

There a few green ones and others on this forum and a friend of mine is restoring a blue 440 4-speed car that be bought 30 years ago.

Hi guys - will a front sub-frame from a 69 fury interchange with a 68 fury? I have found some conflicting posts. I figure someone here may have done this already. I did find one on craigslist in NY.

I have a good used rust free stub frame from a 68 fury. I'm in Texas.

I can't get over the interior on this thing. .. or the roof... jezuz, OR the paint. So worth the work to come.
