I have been trying to buy this car for 4 years. It’s an old street/strip car. It’s a roller. Now that I have it home what on earth to do with it

I would start with a good thorough cleaning, will make the car look better and improve your disposition. Probably full of mouse turds etc, clean all that up and Lysol the interior, you would be surprised how much better a car seems when it does not stink. Do a review of the build tag and see what engine and transmission was in the car to start with and decide if you want to go back to that combination. I personally would get rid of the hood scoop and exterior mounted gauges and try to find a factory style hood. But I like to keep things original, so that is a personal choice. Do a good inspection to check the frame rails for rust, damage etc. A lot of former racers have frame damage. If the car seems worthy of a restoration, decide on a budget and how high of level of restoration you want and proceed accordingly. Be sure to get pricing from multiple vendors before authorizing any work if you are not doing the work yourself. Check out vendors because the restoration business like any other it has a lot of fast buck artists who do shoddy work.

440 4 barrel high performance. 1 of 1700. Autumn Gold original color. Frame is good. Has welded in sub frame connectors. Electric fuel pump. Battery cut off switch in trunk. Included was a bolt on glass bulge hood. It will stay a street/strip car. That’s why I bought it. Original engine now poked & stroked to 500 inches & resides in a Challenger drag car. Yea I’m not a fan of the hood mounted gauges but will stay for now. Has a MSD box loaded with a 6600 pill. Back braced 8 3/4 with 3.73 Sure Grip. Slap stick with factory & aftermarket tach. TTI headers with 3 inch pipes tied to an X & true duals out to chrome tips. Fiberglass front bumper. K frame mod to protect deep oil pan. Definitely will clean it up. Look for signs of rats. It sat under that carport for 12 long years. I have rescued another one.

Didn't we already go over this Bob? :poke:

Good to see you got the car, I like your perseverance. Drop in the big block of your choice and hammer away! After the bath and scrub, of course. It's a cool car and I'm sure it will get treated right in your care.
