Shouldn't Have .. But I Did

And your thoughts on extended cab short beds?
Longer the wheelbase the better it rides.
Ext. Cab, short bed is the wife's truck.
Mega cabs should be crushed immediately for ugliness crimes.
Mega cabs and short beds the whole truck needs destroyed, for nonpurpose.

The long bed "Flare Side" is better to load field crops in, using the side steps (which the Style Side trucks don't have). Field crops include watermelons, cantalopes, and square-baled hay. PLUS 8' lumber. 8' beds are for "working", by observation. With a Chrysler-length wheelbase for that "good ride" to the worksite or field. Didn't see very many short beds on the farm, as I recall.

Back when that F-100 was new, there were many little things about what trucks sold where and with what equipment. Which related to the owner demographics and the agricultural make-up of the areas of the country.

Many fleet/cheap truck buyers would choose a Ford as they didn't have the historic issues with the column 3-speed shift linkage that Chevy trucks had. Most of the trucks sold east of the Mississippi River had factory back bumpers, but most sold west of the Mississippi had aftermarket "hitch/bumper pull" bumpers (which would relate to how many customers pulled trailers with their pickup trucks). Ford had their 300cid six-cylinder, but Chevys were more about V-8s.

if you ordered a contractors special it came with an onan generator mounted under the hood

Ah, a man after my own heart, a Ford.

This is where you go to find all about the 67-72 Series. I, personally, am in the 61-66 group. When it comes to parts numbers, Number Dummy, is the Ford part man extraordinaire. When I did mine I talked with him on the phone several times.

I had a transplanted 72 360 in mine but had it rebuilt to a 9.5:1 390.

too front heavy. an 8 foot bed balances the overall looks better. a short bed seems to lack purpose when most things that are hauled are
8' or longer. yes, you can buy bed extenders, etc. but i would rather have extra room in the box than not enough.

Now I understand your last thought .. .

Excellent proportions.
Ready to put in a hard day's work.
Fits in a parking spot and your garage.
Accommodates one sibling to go to HD and learn about lumber.
Cons: Won't tow a 53 footer and a family of five.

Paint, paint match the wheels, polish and reinstall hubcaps. Or do beige wheel and match the grill. 2¢

Ash was also commonly used in the industry and maple would be a good choice.

Late to this thread as usual. Nice score, beautiful truck. Read the discussion above. Yes paint it black but don't pretty it up too much. Keep the hubcaps and maybe a bit of linseed oil on the wood but that's it.

And Ipe would be a solid choice too. It has the same fire rating as things like concrete.
