Power Wagon Question

Usually easier to get into 4wd in neutral, even while rolling real slow

Is it as mundane a rebuild for a tranny shop as a 727 is?

I don’t particularly care for pickups as daily driver. However, my daughter loves them so we told her that is hers when she turns driving age.
The A518 can get expensive to build compared to the 727

@Joseph James if you're not failure with older 4wd trucks the front hubs had to be manually locked. I'm not failure with this truck specifically, but most likely it still has mechanically locking hubs up front.

Only if they've been altered from the factory, of course many of them have.

Most likely it's a Dana 44 on the front so it will have the auto locking hub with a vacuum operated locking system. The manual locking hubs were usually only found on the truck with a Dana 60 front axle.

Buy it, if you decide you don't like it call me I'll by it from you with some profit for your trouble. I'm looking for a place to put a diesel that is not a rot box, and not a road wanderer 94 up truck. Don't care about slushbox as it will not be in there long if my name is on the title.

I helped put the bed back on. Cranked it up.

My NP205 requires me to be going about 30mph and then put tranny into neutral and then hit/slap the transfercase shifter into 2wd....no other way will it shift out of 4wd engagement.

Yikes! I'd be afraid it'd fall out the bottom at that speed

Draining trans fluid. Only about two quarts of black, smelly fluid came out. Wondering if someone just didn’t fill it. Is the transmission toast?

I had a HD 2wd 87 360/727 D250 years ago and when I did my complete service after purchase the transmission was full of a thick brown goo...some of the most horrible smelling stuff I have ever had to deal with on an automobile. Of course no drain in the torque converter so did a filter and fluid change, ran for 3 months and then did another fluid filter change, then ran for another 6 months and did one more, never had a problem with it in the years I owned it, and I hauled some pretty heavy loads.

I'd roll the dice on it....new filter and fluid and fire it up, 727's are pretty tough transmissions.

Dug into it a bit today. Needs inspection to get tag. Thank goodness no emission inspection. No O2 sensor, no catalytic converters, vapor canister disconnected, etc. Truck is as rednecked up as my Fury was when I got it. Found more scotch splice connectors than I could count in the wiring and I really hate those things.

No horn (ground terminal broken off) and the bushing for the passenger side wiper is missing. Ordered from Rock Auto. Truck needs to pull horse trailer by Sunday so I am in a hurry.

vapor canister disconnected

The charcoal in those things separate into pellets, they get pulled into the carburetor and are the perfect size to block the main jets and virtually shut the truck down. If / when you reconnect it, put some sort of screen in the line to the bowl vent to keep the pellets out. I've had good luck with fuel filters. 2¢
