Today's bone head move of the day...I locked my keys in my trunk. Only problem is, the remakes of the trunk key have never worked. Only the original.

Ideas?

Thinking about removing my back seat (I already have the upholstery to replace) and crawling back there to get them.

Unless you take one of those “bad” new keys and hit it w some sandpaper. Lots of times it’ll make it work better. I see a broom handle tape and a screwdriver in your future.

My theory would be a long, wooden hoe handle with a "slot" screwdriver shaft embedded into the end of the handle. It'll need to be embedded/attached very firmly in order to be able to turn the latch from the inside. Might need a light to see where the slot is in the backside of the latch, too.

Never tried this, but something of that nature might work?

As for the copies of the correct key, it's VERY important to have the orig key correctly indexed into the cutter. If it's too far in or not far enough in, the cuts will not be in the correct position to work the tumblers correctly. Might also try not pushing it in all of the way, or pulling it back out slightly to see if that might work.

Just some thoughts and observations,

As The Goose already mentioned, remove the back seat, tape a Screwdriver to a broom stick and use that to slightly rotate and thereby unlock the lock mechanism from inside. It works.

I’ve finally gathered all the parts for a vacuum trunk release and have started installing.
These electric latches from a 70's-80's Mopar work really nice and fit earlier cars.

I have a recent story I like to share relating to this topic...

As most of you know Maggie and I have been working on her 69 Fury III.
The car is stored in a friends place about 20 minutes away from home (its free storage can't complain).
We keep a spare ignition key with the car should the car need to be moved-- but all my tools are kept in the trunk and the shop is shared with other people.
So we always bring keys with us to open the trunk to work on the car.
3 weeks ago I went to the car alone one evening while Maggie was at work.
A few days later Maggie and I went back to the car again but I could not find the trunk keys at home !!
We looked EVERYWHERE before driving to the car.
We gave up but trudged along to get the car finished.
I already had the back seat out for the carpet install so I pulled the spare tire out and crawled in to pop the trunk.
Maggie went to open the trunk lid and lo and behold!!
The keys were still in the lock cylinder!!!
Dang double Dang!
Hope you get a laugh out of this.
Sorry for the hijack,LOL

Thanks John but I’m going factory on this one. I already put in the vacuum canister and the other pieces will install in minutes and then all I have to do is run the vacuum hose.

Yep, I had to do that once, easy solution.

Just don't do it on the side of a road in the middle of Texas with all available tools locked in the trunk. Now you're dependent on a good Samaritan with tools stopping.

Somewhere between San Angelo and Abilene a few years back..........:BangHead:. And that's my good side. :wideyed:

I always keep an emergency screw driver in the car. I also keep a spare lock and key in the glovebox. Happened once. Popped out the lock and I was on my way. As soon as I reached my destination in went the new lock.
